So this happened...
A couple of weeks ago, after a heavy rain but a few days of drying, I thought I would take the truck over to the garage to load some things into it. I started to drive away and the back end started spinning in place.
I got out and looked and oops!
Yeah, that's kinda stuck. We had another overnight rain shower and...
...it sank a little deeper! A few days later, it was dry again (or so I thought) and I decided to see if I could move it out of the hole.
Big mistake, THAT only made things worse!
With a week long stretch of rain in the forecast, we needed to get it moved. "J" recommended we call her ex to come help since he has a BIG truck but we didn't want to bother him and would rather "save" that card for maybe something else, ha (in case I get the mower stuck or something). So, yesterday we called a local wrecker company to do a winch out and about 2 minutes after they got here...
It was back on dry land, the driveway, ha. They were awesome by the way, and right after they left, I moved the truck...
...to the driveway! It will stay there through this rainy stretch we are about to have.
Good timing because this was about 2 hours after they left. Rains are coming!
Bill the Farm Truck had an adventure (against his will, ha) and will need a bath, though the rains might help with that, ha. For now, he is safe and sound on concrete.

Parking on pavement is a smart move while the rain is still coming down!
ReplyDeleteyep, our ultimate goal is a concrete pad between the barn and shed for the truck to park and to have a place for gathering, working on the mower, etc. But yep, the driveway for now in the rainy season, ha.
DeleteSpinning the wheels simply digs you in deeper, as you discovered, Obtain two or three burlap bags and ease them under a back tire so that it has traction on them. then work a long slice of wood under the bags so that they are taut and firm. Then try a VERY gentle acceleration so that tire grips the bag and moves up the slice of wood. Often this remedy does not work, I warn you. A pull out is best, as you found out. Roderick
ReplyDeleteOooh that's a good idea. I did try some wood but I like the burlap bag idea. might not be to have on hand. I think this, ultimately, was too deep but yep the pull out worked great. I'll get the burlap though can't hurt to have some on hand, I'm sure they have more uses too, ha. Thanks!
DeleteBill the Truck had quite an adventure! I guess he likes playing in the mud! With all the rain recently, the ground is pretty well saturated. Good call to get the wrecker truck to rescue him, especially with more rain coming. As you stated in your comments, a concrete pad between the barns will be a great place for him and other activities.
ReplyDeleteAs a temporary and less expensive solution, you could get some pavers and make two lines to park Bill on. I would also invest in a AAA membership. Towing would then be free.
