We got some great feedback and suggestions when we posted about the storage totes and color coding them. We really liked the idea several of you had to use them for more seasonal decorations without being holiday specific. I've been thinking about it and the other day I found two totes in new colors and with them, I figured out how to complete our seasonal set:
White will, of course, be for Winter decorations...
This is one of the new ones, the color is called "green lily" and I figured it's just perfect for Spring...
This was the other new color I found, it's "sky blue" and made us think of water and Summer...
And lastly, this rust, orange-ish one is the other one that we already had and so it will be used for our Autumn decorations...
We don't have a lot of stuff for different seasons yet and in retrospect, probably should have gotten two each but oh well, we will make do.
Then the last two we already had were these:
We have decided based on comments, to make this one our generic birthday/anniversary/celebration box. For some reason this color reminds us of a birthday party or a celebration. This could be a party catch all.
We do have some Pride Month decorations and have decided that this one will be used for those.
I can't wait to get us organized and get these up in the attic above the garage so I can know where everything is and can grab it when we need it. You don't often get many chances in life to reorganize things in a better way and this seems like the perfect time to do that.
It might have to be a gradual process as we unpack but it will be fun.

A black tote for New Years Eve items but then normally a person doesn't find all that many decorations without the year printed on the items; but then you never know.
ReplyDeleteThere are many different colors for New Years; but then I found these links.

Enjoy your day. Stay cool and stay safe. We got up to 103 deg. yesterday.
Blessings 2 U both
You are singing to the choir when I read your post. I have been working (obviously not continually) for a long time going through all of my seasonal decorations, keeping what I still want, and getting rid of things that I don't use/care about anymore. I have bins already so I am not buying colors to match the seasons (fantastic idea btw), but I did get a large nibbed marker to mark both the lids and the sides so I can tell by looking, what is what. I mean, I thought everyone changed the decor Halloween night after the trick or treating was done to Day of the Dead (which needs its own bin)
ReplyDeleteMy mother in law was a Martha Stewart before Martha Stewart was a thing plus she had a well developed sense of fun. I was amazed when marrying into the family to discover she decorated for all four seasons plus Easter and Christmas. I still have some of her decorations which I use with great pleasure.
ReplyDeleteGood ideas.
ReplyDeleteFor years I have used colored totes to store decorations. I love using them. They help me get organized. Practical Parsimony
ReplyDeleteWonderful organization with your colored totes! It’s going to make decorating for all the occasions and seasons so much fun!
ReplyDeleteI also have tubs for general decoration supplies. Vase fillers. Styrofoam etc. But all of my tubs are clear and low so I don't have to dig through so much to find things. And I can change the ratio of this holiday to that holiday without messing up a color code. I've even switched most of my Christmas tubs to under bed height. But I always need one or two deep tubs for larger objects.
ReplyDeleteI have found that the solid totes leave a lot to be desired. Clear totes with a tape on top and sides with what in them works the best…. So nice to be able to see inside when stacked on top of each other.
ReplyDeleteBe sure and remember the extreme heat of attics in your state ... some items may not take to it very well ... especially candles and glued items ... ask me how I know!!
