I was an only child but still, I was expected to pitch in and I did. No, we didn't garden, or can, but I always helped my Mom in the kitchen, and helped my Dad mow and work in the yard. Of course, that riding mower would have made life much easier back then, lol.1st Manhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04861609647607912193noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3552387675026716797.post-21600465416276742412012-04-15T19:44:32.113-05:002012-04-15T19:44:32.113-05:00I love that they love to plant stuff. Just remember, our farm garden won't be entirely up and running when you come visit! It's a slow process, ha.1st Manhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04861609647607912193noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3552387675026716797.post-29652384798009116492012-04-15T19:42:26.285-05:002012-04-15T19:42:26.285-05:00Isn't it cute? I don't think kids are ever too young to learn about where our food comes from.1st Manhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04861609647607912193noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3552387675026716797.post-84213109408987562972012-04-15T19:41:35.451-05:002012-04-15T19:41:35.451-05:00I aim to please!! :-)I aim to please!! :-)1st Manhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04861609647607912193noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3552387675026716797.post-83720498468249756602012-04-15T19:41:19.452-05:002012-04-15T19:41:19.452-05:00Ha, too funny! I enjoyed hanging around with them (spend summers with them) and my Grandpa had a big garden and I'd help, for awhile until I thought it was too hot, and then my Grandma would can the veggies and I helped there, again, until there was something on tv or I wanted to go outside and play. They were very accommodating to me, since it was my vacation after all, but now i wish I had paid closer attention. I might have learned some of that valuable advice that only comes with decades of experience. :-)1st Manhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04861609647607912193noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3552387675026716797.post-24750443088991417402012-04-15T14:09:03.803-05:002012-04-15T14:09:03.803-05:00those beefy arms again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!those beefy arms again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!John Going Gentlyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14958171262765033946noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3552387675026716797.post-40726150620342601032012-04-15T13:41:43.570-05:002012-04-15T13:41:43.570-05:00:) Get to work lil Jimmie!:) Get to work lil Jimmie! The Stay @ Home-Gardenerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06102175625149771801noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3552387675026716797.post-59036694388379752242012-04-15T11:05:17.940-05:002012-04-15T11:05:17.940-05:00When I was a 'little Jane' I had to work i...When I was a 'little Jane' I had to work in the garden and can. And I HATED it! I remember once getting up at 3am to snap beans(my job) so I could get it all done and go to a swimming party the next afternoon. I felt like child labor ;) What is really funny is that I now do it all and so much more and I LIKE it. I guess even though I dreaded picking potato bugs and giving up summer afternoons to a hot water bath canner as a kid, I did in fact learn some very valuable things that really paid off later in life. Makes me feel bad about all that nasty mumbling under my breath back then :)Jane @ Hard Work Homesteadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02905658082120445313noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3552387675026716797.post-31216093202968823592012-04-15T10:31:14.383-05:002012-04-15T10:31:14.383-05:00My two older boys always helped in the garden and ...My two older boys always helped in the garden and with canning, even from the early ages of six and eight. I don't remember ever having to push them into it, it was just a matter of fact that there were chores to be done and the entire family was expected to pitch in. It was the same with housework, the boys always had their jobs of doing the dusting and vacuuming. That was back in the late 60s and early 70s. The youngest three never did anything at all....no gardening, only cleaning their own rooms when Mom threatened them! I'm not sure when and where I went wrong, LOL!Annie*s Grannyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04772261218172078099noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3552387675026716797.post-85951487259631564072012-04-15T10:22:56.812-05:002012-04-15T10:22:56.812-05:00love this!love this!kellihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08532066803345129472noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3552387675026716797.post-81418038458339699322012-04-15T09:46:29.796-05:002012-04-15T09:46:29.796-05:00I agree. We had a big garden when I was a kid and I tried to keep on up when I had my kids, but sadly, I just don't have time. But my kids love to plant flowers and a few veggies. They love watching everything grow.Kellyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13904220055397364826noreply@blogger.com
