I've been looking for some projects for our upcoming Winter. Of course, I could go back through any of my Inspiration Thursday posts and find lots (and I am doing that too). But last night, I was commenting on another blog about window boxes and that reminded me that I've wanted them for the windows on our farmhouse as well.
So I did some googling and found these images as examples. I just love how much they can dress up a house. This is something I can do this Winter, and have them ready for next Spring. I've got to find a style we like and then figure out how I'm going to install them on the side of the house.

Hope you are having a great week. We've made it to Thursday!
Be inspired!
i love window boxes. they sure can dress a place up. but they are also a pain to keep watered.
ReplyDeleteDang, forgot about that part. Hmm....maybe it will have to be a seasonal thing, ha.
DeleteI love big blowsy arrangements in window boxes...neat little things get on my nerves.
ReplyDeleteJane x
I'm with you Jane - I want window box flower profusion, billowing out and up and over the sides.
DeleteKirk
Jane and Kirk, you are right. It's funny, I looked at all sorts of pics and these two I am drawn to are big and blowsy huh? Billow up and out and over. Looks the best! :-)
DeleteHaha, do you think we can talk Cloud into it?
ReplyDeleteDepends, do they have Manly tulips in them??
DeleteThey sure can!

Hmm, do they meet Cloud's manly requirement? Hey, I have an idea Cloud, what about herbs? You could pop in some basil, creeping oregano and thyme, etc? Pop in a couple of marigolds for color (and bugs don't like marigolds)? Maybe on the other side some salad greens? Then as you go in your front door, you can grab a few leaves for dinner? Just a thought!
DeleteGran those tulips are beauties aren't they?
Those are beautiful. I think windowboxes on a country house just "make" the whole place.
ReplyDeleteYears ago, I bought 2 wicker basket windowboxes---they sat for years unused, until I bought my current home. Those two fit PERFECT on my 2 barn windows. So remember , always buy things you TRULY love, and eventually, they'll fit ......somewhere. At least that's what I tell my husband. It's my story and I'm sticking to it!
Ha!
I love how you think. I buy things that I just KNOW will be perfect later on. Of course, sometimes I forget where I put them, ha. I love that you have window boxes on your barn windows, that's a great thought too (for our future barn of course). Thanks!!
DeleteSue,
DeleteI am going to have to remember that line--always buy things you truly love, and eventually, they'll fit.....somewhere. There! I hope typing it makes it stick in my head better. Actually, that is what I do all the time.
I also like the blowsy flowers in flower boxes.
I also love window boxes. Another variation you might want to consider, particularly if you have inset windows, the type with an inset ledge, and multi-paned windows, is to put a shelf within the window frame. You could then put a pot on the shelf along with other things like coloured bottles which are then illuminated with outside light. Simple jars with flowers in them also works really well. I'm not explaining it very well so might just send you an email with a photo of ours.
ReplyDeleteGot your email and replied. Thank you so much. Great idea. I'll have to come up with something and blog about it. Love it! :-)
DeleteKnock it off! I can't stand it...I have 52 windows in my house...you're killing me!!
ReplyDelete52?!!?!??! That would be a LOOOOOT of window boxes. Get started now and you can have them all ready for Spring, hahaha.
DeleteYep! I live in a nice big Craftsman Farmhouse built in 1923. No AC in those days so lots of windows to direct and influence air flow...we have 9 closets each has a window, 7 bedrooms each with 4 Windows, kitchen has 5, 1 in each bathroom, living room 6, formal dining 3...oops...the east porch has 6 and I forgot the full basement has casement windows all the way around the house...dang, I've got a boat load of windows! More than 52!
