Homemade dewberry jam |
Last week, I blogged about my first canning from scratch experience. I made "dewberry jam". Several of you asked how it was. Well it came out beautiful and delicious. Here it is on some homemade biscuits that 2nd Man cranked out one morning. He wanted to do something different and made "biscuit sticks". The jam was a perfect accompaniment to them. Thick, chunky bits of dewberries, sweet with just a bit of tartness. It was just too good. So neat to think that we gathered berries that were growing wild on our farm and then made the into jam that we ate for breakfast!
Very rewarding in more ways than one!

Hope you are ready for the weekend. Any big plans? Or just same old same old as they say? Hope you enjoy doing whatever makes you happy!
The jam looks delicious! I tried making jam about six months ago, I bought a huge box of strawberries, they were pretty ripe, however I didn't realise that if too ripe, there won't be enough pectin, it was still nice jam, just wish it had set a bit more. You have inspired me to have another go ;)
ReplyDeleteWe did use a bit of pectin in this and it really helped it come out. I didn't use the whole package because I didn't want it to affect any taste. Since it was the first attempt I figured I needed some help, ha.
DeleteThose are cute biscuits. I was expecting to see round ones, not rectangular. Jam looks delicious on them.
ReplyDeleteHe cooks round usually, on occasion he changes it up and does square, but this time he surprised me by doing these sticks. It was kind of cool and they tasted just as good, ha. Thanks!!
DeleteYou both are so clever! Isn't it great when you eat your own produce?
ReplyDeleteThe jam looks delicious, well done!
Well thank you very much!! Eating our own is so good (wait, that's sounds kind of like cannibalistic , ha).
DeleteOh my gosh, that looks SO good!! Now I'm hungry, dang it! - Becca
ReplyDeleteSorry to make you hungry, ha. It was good.
DeleteWhat a neat way to cook biscuits. Very nice. Thank you for sharing (and thank you for making me hungry too, ha).
ReplyDeleteI thought it was pretty cool too. I told him to do it again like that. Thank you for stopping by!
DeleteNext year, won't you please have a contest of some sort with your dewberry jam as a prize?
ReplyDeletePretty please??
You know, I thought about that. By next year, we'll be more adept at making them and then I won't worry about wondering if they all came out. :-) Thank you for stopping by too, and commenting!!
DeleteJust wanted to stop by and say how much I love your blog. This jam looks gorgeous. My partner and I made the nice to the country about 10 years back although we still work in London we have the luxury of the countryside to keep us sane. Happy blogging x
ReplyDeleteWell, first of all, WELCOME! What a nice comment and hello! And secondly, WOW, your blog is amazing! Such great food recipes. Everyone, go check it out, it's VERY well done. We're still a few years away from making the move but we're loving the weekends and the work and planning in getting it ready.
DeleteThanks again for stopping by and I will look forward to catching up with your blog as well.
wow! looks great!
ReplyDeleteAww, thanks!! It was yummy!!!
DeleteCan't wait for ours to get ready. Mulberries are getting close. While we were out driving the property last night, we were looking at the berries. My oldest daughter said it smelled so good outside. My youngest pipes in, "It smells like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches." She was already anticipating the jelly from the berries!
ReplyDeleteSlightly tart jelly is the best!
You know I don't think I've ever had mulberries. I love the 'peanut butter and jelly' comment, how observant!! (and delicious, seems no matter how old we are, they are still good huh?).
DeleteI'm glad to hear others enjoy slightly tart jelly and jam. :-)
