The first official mow of the year is in the books.
The service shop dropped it off a couple weeks ago and I had to wait for some rainy weather to finally clear out.
I am finally able to start clearing some of the areas "post construction" that had grown up a lot. Wish I had a before pic of this but suffice to say, it was heavily overgrown. This area still has some construction debris, concrete chunks and such in it so I have to walk it first and move stuff or mow around it for now.
Also cleared around the well shed and Barnabas (the big mesquite). I got as close as I could but will have to use the string trimmer for the closer to the tree.
It was a usually time, about an hour and a half and did about three acres. The weather was cool and it was definitely a moment of Zen...until...
Speaking of construction debris, I looked at the mower before I closed the shed doors and thought, "what's wrong with the mower?". Oh crap, a flat tire. Sigh. This mower has never had the tires treated with that awesome green good,, ha, so I will be off to the store soon to get some tire Slime.
There won't be any mowing this weekend because it is supposed to rain all day Saturday so I'll have time to get that and get the tires fixed.
And hey, now I have a concrete driveway to do this type of work on! Can't wait! It will certainly be much easier.
Hope your Easter weekend gets off to a great start!

We received right around 1 inch in the wee hours yesterday morning and expecting more later this afternoon and evening hours. We really needed the rain. Have been under a No burn ban here in our county and yet people pay no attention to the warnings; like 'turn around and don't drown.' . . They feel it doesn't apply to them.
ReplyDeleteNothing like the smell of fresh mowed grass. Your yard Always looks so nice once it has been mowed and trimmed up.
Well, anyway, to everyone; May Easter fill your hearts with bright and lasting joy. Everyone have a Happy and Blessed Easter, now and forever more.
You all stay safe and enjoy your day.
I would say that you might had run over a nail being you are still picking up some construction items still laying around. May have to walk around with a metal detector and pick up any loose nail, etc. that are still laying around that the construction workers may have missed.
DeleteJust wanted to wish you all the best for Easter
ReplyDeleteHappy and safe Easter weekend to all. Florida is flooded with out of state cars. Must be spring break in some schools. We need rain, have had some but still about two inches below normal. We did not have a hurricane last year, so the water table is always down those years. I like dry weather better than the storms. My kids are farmers and pray for the rain.
ReplyDeleteI love the picture of the Zen machine with your beautiful house in the background.
ReplyDeleteHoping we get some good rain tomorrow. We are in the Extreme category of drought.
Wishing y’all and everyone a very happy Easter Weekend!🐰
You might want to get an inexpensive "Magnet sweeper" (available at Habour Freight or Home Depot) to run around everything and find nails and screws. We have a wide bar magnet on a rope (much less sophisticated) that we drag around. You will be surprised what you find. I grew up being taught to be paranoid about horse shoe nails in the farm tractor tires so I am well versed in picking up nails.
ReplyDeleteETA: There are also things they call "pull retrieving magnets" that you just drag. No wheels.
DeleteWhat is tire slime? Happy Easter! 🐇🐇🐇🐇
ReplyDeleteThat photo of the mower in front of your house would make a perfect John Deere ad!
ReplyDeleteor would also make for a good calendar photo
