| Vintage Poster - Join The Women's Land Army |
Last week, I posted an image from the US Crop Corps. The other day, while researching online, I found this one that is related to the same department/organization during the "Victory Garden" campaign of WWII.
Apparently they targeted women as well, to get them to join and "pitch in and help", presumably while so many men were off to war. There weren't as many people to help harvest the country's important food crops so they needed everyone they could get.
The graphics on this poster are really nice, and I'd love to see it in person. This image comes courtesy of the National Archives...you just know that they have some awesome posters stored away!

ReplyDeleteWonder where you could purchase these signs. Paint on metal backing etc. It would be neat to place one on a pole for the front yard with a listing of what is growing and some information below it for passerby's
There are some that have been reprinted but yeah, I'd love to have some of these. Love your idea of a metal sign, that would be awesome, especially in your awesome front yard!
DeleteKinda starting to wig out a bit. It's dawning on me that there is a need for no doubt a thousand plants. I've only a few hundred potted up. Eeeks.
DeleteSome people think that gardening is expensive etc. After working with the preliminary numbers with starting plants. Factoring in the entire cost of seeds (Although not all are being started just yet),
- soil
- water at this point is so minimal that for transplant costs doesn't factor in much
- Electricity is fairly cheap and you can cram a ton of pots under the lights. Id say over the 3 months of growing indoors it doesn't add up to more than 40 bucks if I went and purchase more lights.
Meaning, heaps cheaper to start from seed than bothering to go out and get store transplants. Which in other than hobby gardening would break most banks!
