BASKETS, THRIFT STORE FIND

Thrift Store Baskets
Popped into a favorite thrift store yesterday to see what they had (2nd Man stayed at home after Saturday's shopping adventures) and I found these baskets!  There was a set of three, large/medium/small, and then another  matching set that was being sold 'as is' with just the medium and small sizes, the large one was missing.  I thought they'd be perfect and it turns out they were.  Best of all, it worked out even better since the single bookcase wouldn't have held the "missing" large one anyway.  What you can't see is that there are some flowers sort of embossed on the other side of each one.  Their colors were a little too bright for the look we want in that room (and might clash with our soon to arrive couches), but I figured, heck, I'll just turn them around and use them this way and no one will be the wiser (unless they read this blog, ha ha)!

I'm in the process of making a board for that 'corner' to lay on top and use that dead space, as was suggested a few weeks ago.  Instead of a plant (since we're not there to water it on a regular basis yet), we're going to use it as a platform for a small stereo in order to have some music in the house.  It'll sort of be hidden (it's one of those small ones), but will still supply lots of sound to the room/house.  I'm also going to work on a strip of stained wood to hide that gap where the cabinets make the corner.

Question though, do you think the staggered sizes look OK?  I wasn't sure, but hey, for the price I paid, $10 for all of them, it seemed too good a deal to pass up, staggered sizes or not, LOL!  We saved something from the trash and the best part of all, we now have more storage space just waiting to be filled up.

In a small house, storage is such a rare commodity that we want to get it wherever we can.

Thanks again to all of you who suggested the idea!

  1. Looks great, good score on the baskets. Adding a shelf in between and a strip to close the gap will cut down on that corner collecting a lot of dust, etc. which you will have more of living in the country.

    1. You know that's true! And getting back there to clean would be next to impossible, ha. I need to get on that sooner rather than later, beat the dust!

  2. For $10 you're never going to complain, great buy! Like you say, when space is a premium, all storage is good! Nice find.

  3. Perfect.

But...since you asked, LOL! If you number the baskets from left to right (1-2-3-4-5) I would arrange them 2-1-5 on the left bookcase and 3-4 on the right book case. On the other hand, I'm lousy at arranging things :-)

    1. It took a few minutes of back and forth to figure that out, ha. But you're right, I think that will look better. I'll do it, take a picture and share!

  5. I had to copy your picture, then number them in "Paint" to get the sequence :-) I could feature you taping numbers to the baskets to keep that straight.

    1. Well I was back and forth between your comment and the picture and in my mind I was going "1,2,5, no, 1,4,3, no wait, 2,5,4...", ha. But I figured it out! Thanks! next time I'm out there, tomorrow hopefully for the furniture delivery, I'll reaarange and share the results!

  6. Great find! I love using wonderful baskets for storage. I like Annie's Granny's line-up, too.

I go to the local thrift shop every other week and it never fails...I always find something! Last week I found 5 matching reach-in storage jars...for $.25 each! I ran to the local grocery store and dumped a fortune in hard candy to fill them with!! My counter looks like an old fashioned penny candy store. I told my husband we're now the perfect grandma and grandpa!

    1. Aren't they fun? It's like an adventure or scavenger hunt. I found two within "lunch driving" range of work and I try to go once a week. Heck you can sometimes go daily and find new stuff, ha.

Perfect Grandma and Grandpa is a great reason, but heck, I want my counter lined up with candy and we don't have grandkids, can we still do it? LOL! Thanks for stopping by!!

  7. Try the baskets this way: large and the 2 mediums on the LHS bookcases and the 2 little ones on the RHS bookcase... I think it would look great! Cheryle
