SOMETHING TO SLEEP ON, FINALLY

FINALLY!

Yesterday we had some furniture delivered with more coming today.  The most important delivered items were the mattresses.  We now have real beds!  Here is the master bedroom mattress...

...and here is the guest room mattress.  I know, I know, they are mattresses, not a life changing moment, but they will change our weekends out there (soon anyway) as we can now spend the night, comfortably.  We can also put on the bedspreads and all the accompanying decorating things that go along with that.

  1. Sometimes, something like a mattress is just about the most important thing of the day!

  2. I am interested in getting the lillesand bed frame myself and was wondering if you are using slats and a box spring or if there is enough of a lip to support the box spring with the midbeam? Thank you!

    1. Hello! Thanks for stopping by! Yes, that's the lillesand bed frame. We don't have the slats, just the midbeam. You can see my post here: http://twomenandalittlefarm.blogspot.com/2011/11/black-bed-frame-done.html
and see it before the mattress was delivered. We were confused too about that whole issue, in fact, bought the frame first without the midbeam and had to go back and get it. Yes, the midbeam and the lip mean you use the box spring. If you don't want to use a boxspring ,you can use the slats and just put a mattress right on top of those, but we wanted the boxspring because we wanted the support.

We also bought the Leirvik white frame which you probably noticed above. We love that one too (with midbeam). These are probably the best deals on metal bed frames you can get. I think you'll like it!

Thanks again for stopping by!!! Please come back!

    2. Thank you for the response. You were much more helpful than anyone at ikea. I look forward to reading more of your blog.

    3. Aww, thanks for that! Yeah, we had to do it with trial and error. Glad we could help. We love the frames, just were like you, confused about the slats vs midbeam.

    4. Hi, I wAs wondering what size is the Lillisand bed and if you used two box springs or one. I am about to get a king size bed and have two box springs and wondered how they sit on the frame.

      Thanks.

    5. Hello Veronica! We have the queen sized bed frame (room too small for the bigger, ha). We used one box spring, a queen sized box spring and then a queen sized mattress on top of that. There is a slat set that you need to get (they don't really mention that). That lets you put the box spring on and holds it nicely. The slats sit across the bed frame from side to side, so I would assume the two box springs would just fit in side by side.

Not sure if that was much help since we don't have the king size but I hope it did! Side note, the lillesand frame is so cool, it looks very old school.

Good luck and happy decorating! :-)

  3. Hey! In regards to the Lillesand bedframe -- Would you happen to know how tall the bed is from the floor to the top of the mattress? I'm looking to buy one, but I'll also be using a box spring, and I want to make sure it's not ridiculously tall. :)

    1. Hello, thanks for stopping by! I will have to measure tomorrow when I go back out there (got rained out today). It IS a bit high, not high enough that I found it crazy high, but I suppose that could be, plus depending on what you like as well. I'll check it out and come back to this post and let you know!!!

    2. I hope you come back to get this. I measured it this weekend (didn't make it last weekend, too much rain).

From the floor to the top of the box spring is 22". From the floor to the top edge of the mattress was 33". So I think that's a bit higher than what you might get with any other bed frame.

It's higher but we like it, lots of room under the bed and it looks great in the room because of that.

Hope that helps and good luck! :-)

  4. Quick question, I'm looking to get the white bed frame from Ikea but I have a box spring for my mattress. Did you just tell Ikea you didn't want the slats? Did you have to tell them you wanted the midbeam? Any advice you can give me on this would be most helpful. Thank you!!! :)

    1. Hello and thanks for stopping by. It IS kind of confusing huh? Honestly, we bought the first frame and didn't realize we needed the midbeam! We were confused as well.

SO....since, at least at our Ikea, it's pretty much self serve, we found the box for the frame. It does NOT come with the midbeam OR the slats in the price. You have to buy those as extras, depending on which one you need. In our case we had the box spring too, so we just bought the midbeam (it was only like $10 as I recall, maybe $12). It's funny when we went back to buy the other frame, we had to get the midbeam for it and the midbeam we missed the first time. We were loading it on the cart and an Ikea guy walked by and said "oh, you don't need two of those only one". We said "yes we know, we just didn't realize we needed ONE at all when we bought the other frame the other night".

So, if you do have salesman help you, just say you need the frame and the midbeam. That's it. No need to worry about the slats. They are all kept together in the same spot so it's easy to get what you need.

We LOVE them both. That white one always gets us compliments (look elsewhere on the blog and you can see the room "evolve") and it's SO affordable. Love it.

Hope that helps! Good luck! Don't be a stranger!! :-)

  5. You've been so helpful, I love the Ikea leirvik frame, and normally wouldn't mind being without a box spring, but my husband has medical issues. So because of that We have a slanted box spring that I just cant get rid of. We also have a queen mattress and I was wondering what the dimentions of your mattress and box spring were. Thank you!

    1. You know, I don't honestly know the dimensions. They are standard size queen box and mattress. We didn't get anything deep or extra large. I won't be at the farm again this weekend so I can't get dimensions until next weekend. If this helps, we bought the frame well before we bought the mattress and box springs. Then we just bought some we saw that we liked and were comfortable and they just fit perfectly. I would think the slanted springs would still work, as long as they are the same dimensions as one that is not slanted. Hope that helps.

    2. I'll have to look around at other Queen sizes then, Thank you so much though It's been helpful to know that it should work with a box spring
