DEWBERRIES ARE RIPENING

This past weekend, 2nd Family said that some of the dewberries have started to ripen.   It's still a little early, but we decided to roam around and see what we could find.  As you can see in this picture, some are ripe, some are almost ripe and yet more are still a couple weeks away.

One of our dear friends was out there to visit us and see the house in person, so we took one of these buckets and she and I went to gather some berries.

About 20 minutes (and some red stained fingers) later, we had gathered this bucket full of fresh dewberries.

We brought them home, rinsed them off and put them in a bowl in the fridge.  We ended up with about 6 cups total.  Not sure what we'll do with them yet, but I'll keep you posted.  And there are more, lots more, to come.

    1. They'll be there soon enough. We're blessed with 'barely' Winter so things start early down here, ha. It's been a wet one too so they are doing really well.

  2. How delightful! I'm jealous! I'm up in the mid-atlantic region, and I haven't seen any berries at the local farms this far along, yet.

  3. Dewberry cobbler. Or jam. But you have to try dewberry cobbler first. It's what God made them for.

  4. How are dewberries different from blackberries? They look the same to me.

    1. They are related to blackberries. They just grow wild in harsher conditions, and they are a bit smaller than blackberries. There are differences in their vines as well. But what they lack in size, the make up for in flavor, YUMMY! I'll post pics of whatever we do with them.
