Look at this great find! Got this at a garage sale last week and got it out to the farm over the weekend. It's a bench, painted in a red color with a design of sunflowers. When I saw it I knew it would be perfect for the farm kitchen. The yellow brings out the yellow from the Nadeau hutch, and red will be an accent color in the kitchen. Here's the best part:

It opens up!
As you can see, lots of storage potential. It's so important to find decorative pieces that also combine storage since the house is so small. I'm thinking this will be a great place for storing some extra kitchen towels and linens. I think it might even be mouse proof, LOL.
that bench is awesome and it really does match up well with the hutch and the baskets! have you thought about getting a cute pillow to place on it, or cover the entire top with a pillow? is it strong enough to sit on? if so, it's a decorative piece, storage space and extra seating all in one!
ReplyDeleteyour friend,
kymber
Oh yes, I should have mentioned that, yes, it "sittable" (I guess that's not a real word, ha). But yes, it's nice and you have a great idea with a pillow or one long one or something. I'll have to measure it and take the dimensions around with me. Great idea, thank you!
DeleteLove it and glad you had the perfect spot to put it!
ReplyDeleteThank you, as always!! :-)
Deleteyou find the most pretty stuff!
ReplyDeleteAww, thanks. I think I'm just in the right place at the right time, ha. Of course that makes me wonder what I'm missing when I'm not looking, LOL!
DeleteI have a rustic meal chest in my kitchen -- do you know what that is? It's taller than the chest you have, high enough that I use it of as a counter of sorts. It stores A LOT. More than you would think. And, I think the storage is about what you will get with your bench. I have a complete set of dishes in the meal chest, plus my food processor, its attachments and several other things. You will really enjoy the bench.
ReplyDeleteA meal chest? That's totally fascinating, never heard of that term before. You know, storing small appliances isn't a bad idea. I'll have to see what might fit in there. Thanks for the tip!
DeleteWhat a great find! Hmmmmm I may have to go through my cross stitch patterns and find something that would compliment the color scheme.....interested?
ReplyDeleteUm YEAH! When we get you out there, we can see what space we have to pick the right size and colors. Anything with chickens? Cows? Veggies? We'll figure out something, that would be cool! Thank you.
Deletelove Love LOVE! What a terrific find! I love it is decorative and practical!
ReplyDeleteJust realized I didn't reply to this (I miss them on occasion!). Thanks for the comment, that's what I loved about it too, it looks good AND serves another purpose, such as storage.
DeleteI am so glad I found y'all's blog! My Marine and I are bidding on a one acre piece of farm land with a tiny house upon it right now, so in my DIY renovating search I came across this wonderful blog. Our dream is to be self sufficient and for hubs to not slave away for another 20 years in some career field. Oh and I love the sunflower bench it's just lovely!

Hi and welcome!!! Thank you for the kind words!! Whenever we have a new person stop by it makes me smile. Our dream is pretty much like yours. We got the house sort of unexpectedly and since we still are able to live in town and keep our jobs, we are able to slowly work on this and make it our self sufficient spot! It's a slow process but it's so rewarding. You will love it!
DeleteSide note, thank you and you husband for what you do for all of us. We appreciate it. Thank him for being in harms way for us, and thank you for what you and your family have to give up for him as well. We're all in this together and we are very supportive of our troops. Thank you all!! :-)
