BUY LOCAL AND EAT LOCAL

We just went to a local Farmers Market this past weekend and scored some awesome (as always) vegetables, a jar of local honey, and some fresh fruit.  It reminded me of a sign I saw once and so I went online to look for it to share.

Remember to try and buy local whenever you can.  It supports our local farmers and small businesses!  And let's face it, the food is fresher and always tastes better.

HERE IS A GREAT LINK that can help you find Farmers' Markets in your area.

What about you?  Do you shop local?  Have a favorite market?

    1. Ditto. It's certainly not always easy but it is a good feeling isn't it??

  2. I grow my vegetables and fruit when possible. If I need to purchase anything, I try first my local Farmers Market. Then it's off to the grocery store where I attempt to buy locally grown food.

    1. Oh how I can't wait for that!! Got the trees, the seeds and have been clearing a spot for the garden. I hope this time next year we have so much food we don't have to give it away to friends and family. I like how you said attempt to buy at the grocery store...they don't make it easy do they?

  3. I am always thrilled when our local independent supermarket has produce from local farms. This past week I found local honey and apples! We are also lucky to have many farms around us that have farm stands in the summer. Of course we grow out own garden that supplies us with a lot of food.

    1. Amen! We have a local small market in our neighborhood that has some local stuff, and we love it. There is even a restaurant in our neighborhood that has it's own beehives and sells local honey which is pretty neat (and the best allergy cure, ha).

  4. We buy as much as we can from our local Farmers Market. Its 60k away, but well worth the trip, and yes it is fresher and does taste better. We hope to grow our own this year with raised beds, and hopefully not feed too many insects this time around, lol.

    1. Raised beds on the agenda here too! We're lucky that we have some close by to us but I think after trying it, we'd drive a distance as well. Can't wait to see your progress!!

  6. as you know, we grow a lot of our own food but we are lucky that there are many farms here on the island, as well as in mainland nova scotia! mainland nova scotia is where we get all of our apples, peaches, pears, plums - they are delicious! but another important part of eating locally is that you end up eating seasonally - and that is also very good!!!

    1. Seasonal eating is a great thing isn't it? I read a book last year called "Animal Vegetable Miracle" and it really opened my eyes to the whole seasonal eating thing. It's the way we are supposed to eat huh?

Sounds like you have lots of great food around. And don't forget about all those framboise! I'm sure I totally butchered that, ha.
