SOIL FILLED WEEKEND

It's soil delivery weekend*

* but not this much (at least I hope not, LOL).

We're having the soil for the raised beds delivered today, yay!

They will be here at 11am.  The plumber comes at 10am.  A friend is stopping by at 10:30 to help us and the contractor comes at noon to see about repairing the water heater cabinet.  It will be a full day for sure.  But after everyone is gone, we will have a fully functioning house for the first time in a year.

The raised beds are lonely and empty, as seen in this shot that I took before I put the cardboard down.  After today, the next part is to start planting.

We're borrowing 2nd Family's wheelbarrow because our used one that was left behind by Ma when she moved, finally gave out last weekend (part of the whole good/frustrating two days we had).  The whole wheel assembly came loose from the bottom and then the axle broke.  We'll buy a new one of course, but this is like borrowing a cup of sugar.  "Hey can we borrow a garden tool?"

We have two good shovels so we should be good to go regardless.

The big unknown today is that there is a chance of rain in our forecast:

Keeping our fingers crossed though, we need to get the soil into the beds before the rain comes and it becomes a muddy pile.  It can rain Sunday, that's fine, but not today!  Whatever happens, I'll make sure and get pics of the process, the good, the bad, and the ugly, ha.

Have a great day, more later!

  1. OOOOO be careful... and use that broken wheelbarrow as a planter! You'll see one in our yard this year.

    1. Great idea! It's currently exactly where it "died", ha. I might just leave in there and throw some dirt in! Just like Tonya said, I love that idea too!

  2. oooh exciting! We are currently looking for our [last/retirement] home to purchase and I am so anxious to find IT because I want to get planting. I don't want to miss this season by having to move in June. And if a garden isn't already part of the land, well we will certainly be borrowing the container idea. It's like sugar, eh?

Can't wait to see everything grow for you. Good luck!

    1. Ha, thank you! Yes, this might not be our permanent home YET, but we know it will be and that lets me build the gardens and plant trees, etc. You're always welcome to borrow, ha. That's what makes the world so awesome. Good luck to YOU in your search, definitely keep us posted.

  3. We had rain all night Thurs. and all day yesterday. Today, it has not been raining though cloudy. Everything in our neck of the woods is wet. Most of the planting is done in our area. Can't wait to see the beds full of dirt, planted, and little things growing. Have a great day.

    1. It rained about half the day today. They are full of dirt, next weekend they should have things planted, hopefully! Though we did have a light freeze the other night. I'm going to keep my eye on the long term forecast before I go TOO crazy, ha.

    1. Tomorrow's posting will show them all neat and tidy, no plants yet, it rained today plus, as I posted above on another comment, we've had a light freeze a few days ago out there at the farm. Don't want to get any seedlings in just yet. Fingers crossed!!
