INSPIRATION THURSDAY, DOORS AND WINDOWS IN LANDSCAPING

Birdbath and flowers with repurposed doors, image courtesy of homegoods.com
Here is something I've always loved...and not necessarily the fountain, more the flowers with the doors.  I think I've always liked the look of doors and windows just randomly placed in the landscape.  Here, these are used as a backdrop to a flower garden and just look really nice.

The cool thing is, we have 2 (smaller) old french doors with peeling paint, and broken glass, being stored in the mower shed.  "Ma" left them behind when she sold us the house and I didn't want to get rid of them because I remembered this picture.  I can use them for something similar.  For now, they are there in the shed, waiting for their 'day in the sun'.  I just have to find the right spot!

We made it to Thursday, the weekend is almost here!

Be inspired!

  2. You could also place them facing each other attach some 2x4's to the top and build an arbor out of them ..... do I see you looking around now for more doors?

  3. This is a very timely post I was just thinking a 'fairy door' might be a good idea for a shady spot in the cottage garden

real vintage french doors would be perfect amongst old fashioned cottage planting

    1. They do look great in a cottage planting huh? I think it's the flowers and the shape of the doors/windows and it just looks so pretty together.

  4. Doors are great for flower backdrops. I hope your temperature will be better than ours, we are headed for 118+ degrees F. I don't plan to go anywhere or do anything outside save for water early in the a.m. Have a great weekend.

  5. 1st Man,

I love the idea with the doors/windows in a garden. You can also use them and place pictures inside and bring them in your home.

Enjoy the rest of your week......hurry up weekend, family time and a little relaxation (working in the garden) :=)

    1. You know I thought about the pictures option, but we didn't have any wall space that was big enough for that. So garden it will be. I can't wait. Of course it's a bit too warm now, this might become a fall project, ha.

  7. I think window or door frames would look fantastic in the midst of a grouping of flowers. I wish I was more artistic or adventurous- my yard is just as boring as can be.

    1. I think a window frame would be neat hanging in a tree. Our yard is boring right now, but someday it will be more exciting, ha.

  8. I think these would great in the vicinity of the party tree, something that says " there's more back here than you think there is". I like this very much.

    1. I thought about the party tree too. I like the idea of "there is more back here than you think there is". Hmmm, I wonder if they could somehow be used as 'doors' to the area under the tree? I'll have to think about that.

      Luv ya!!
