CANNAS IN A FLOWER GARDEN, INSPIRATION THURSDAY

Cannas in a garden, image from southernliving.com
Love this grouping of Cannas (along with some other flowers).  I've always liked Cannas for their striking color, and the fact that they are hard to kill.  They are very drought tolerant and they do come back year after year.

I would love to just have a grouping (or two or three) like this scattered around the property.  If I'm not mistaken, they also multiply underground and come back with more the next year?  Can't beat self propagating landscaping, ha.

Enjoy your day!
Be inspired!

  1. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I have NEVER grown a canna in my life! I admire them in gardens... but I am not so sure they would live through winter here, to come back next spring (northeast Kansas).

    1. I think they die back of course but because they are bulbs, I'm pretty sure you'd get more next year? They are pretty. We'll have to look for some here.

    2. The green kind with the red fglowers I believe are called Presedinte do come back every year and the second year they will multiply during the summer itself, I gave so many away that this year I actually had to throw some out, they are actually rhizomes not bulbs so more that one flower will emerge from just 1 rhizome I have one in the garden now that was 1 just last year and is a staggering 14 this year and that's just 1

  2. Cannas, Purple Coneflower and Black-Eyed Susans, they are all perennials. Very easy to grow. Some of the Cannas have interesting leaf variegation that make the garden interesting even when they are not in bloom.

    1. I think they would do well for you up there and still come back after Winter. Add a few and you might end up with a lot, ha.

  4. I love cannas too 1st man. I've grown them for years as a shade plant, even in my veggie gardens, to protect my more delicate veggie plants in our hot afternoon Tx heat. Plus they attract hummingbirds! Word of caution though... they spread rapidly. Hope you had a great vacation.
