A BIRD NEST IN BLACK AND WHITE

Bird nest in a tree
My attempt at something artsy, LOL.

I saw a bird nest in this tree while roaming around the property a couple of weekends ago.  When I spotted it, I thought that without the leaves on the tree, it would look nice as a nice black and white photo.

I think it actually came out kinda cool.  We love exploring the property and seeing something new and different.  In another month, this tree will be covered in leaves and we'd never have known that nest is there.

Our weather forecast for tomorrow is rain, darn it.  I am hoping to get some time on the Zen Machine this weekend, but we'll see what happens.  Hope the start of your weekend is a good one.

  1. I have always loved the winter starkness of the black branches against the sky. i have a watercolor of a winter dawn scene with the bare trees and the pale sunrise. I think maybe if you take the shot from a little further away, you will get the effect that you were looking for when you have more of the whole tree in the picture - just a guess. It's still nice the way it is = winter revelations.

    1. Thank you, I'm kind of new at all this picture taking business (well, taking pictures to create something artistic looking, ha). Thank you for the info!

  2. 1st Man,

I pulled the tractor out (I mean Zen Machine) yesterday, and cut the entire property. I had so much fun, I even pulled out the push mower to do around the garden beds.
I hope you get an opportunity to enjoy some sun riding your Zen Machine :-)
    Have a blessed weekend.

    1. Don't you love your time on the mower? It's so much fun. Great time to think, or just not think and let your mind have a rest. Enjoy!!

  3. LOL, I was going to suggest the opposite to Katie C. I am a fan of the crop. If you have already cropped your original photo, I would suggest returning the photo to normal then duplicating it a couple of times before returning one to the photo above then the third to a much closer crop. Play around with the position of the birds nest but I would suggest placing it closer to a bottom corner. If you play around with your contrast buttons you will find it will lend a more dramatic effect as well. Art is so subjective but I also agree with Katie in that the photo you've taken is great. I'm sure someone with more skill than I will have different advise. God help you if you weren't looking for it, LOL. Now that you know the nest is there, it will be interesting to see if the birds return to it in the spring.

    1. You are great, thank you so much! Yes, it was cropped, it's digital of course so I can do all sorts of things. I don't mind the advice at all, LOL (you made me laugh). I will see what I can do with it, great tips. Yes, i will definitely be keeping an eye on the nest this season. thank you!!!

  4. It is a great composition as it is. I thought a closer crop would be as artistic as this one you posted. Further away would give a different feel, still a good feel. I am quite impressed. You took a great raw material and turned it into an artistic piece. I like the strong outer limbs protecting the fragility of the nest. It is sort a male/female dichotomy.

    1. You took thoughts out of my head. When I saw it, I was thinking that it seemed like strong branches protecting the smaller branches and the nest. Thank you for the kind words!!
