FLOWERS IN FIELD, INSPIRATION THURSDAY

Wow, how pretty is this?  There are cosmos dahlias (thanks readers!).  We love the mix of colors, and the contrast of the green.  I'm not sure how hard they are to grow, but we save pictures like this so we can look back on them later and have inspiration for creating something like it at the farm.

You know what's funny?  We always wonder what's JUST off camera in these photos.  Does it all look like this?  Or just this one spot?  We'll never know, ha!

Be inspired!

  1. I think they are dahlias. But whatever they are, they are very pretty.

  2. Pockets of color in a natural landscape - gorgeous! I like that look - you still have the natural beauty of the woods and the fields but there is also have some planned beauty.

    1. I love that idea of pockets of color. We do have lots of green and brown (of the tree trunks and limbs) but we do want those pops of color. I ilike that phrase "planned beauty".

  3. Dahlias I would say, very pretty, we have to lift Dahlia tubers in Autumn here in the UK, Dahlia tubers also know as Dahlia Yams are edible, they are related to Jeruselem Artichokes, the Cactus Dahlias give the biggest tubers.

  4. Dahlias. You will need to prune and stake or they fall over. I have seen dahlias that grow compacting in Alaska, but when you have 20 hours of sun per day they seem to grow more compactly.

    1. Thanks for the info. Dahlias they are, and I didn't know that they got that big. Thanks!

  5. Oh-is that gorgeous. And yes-they are Dahlias. I think in your zone you wouldn't have to lift them for the winter. They are "doable" in your locale.
Thanks for sharing that shot. Wow!

    1. Cool, thank you. Good to know they might work here, I will have to do some research about when to plant, etc. Sounds like they are perennials and that's always a good thing, ha.

By the way, your garden and flowers are also very much 'wow'. :-)

  6. It really does inspire. I always plant a few sunflowers in my vege garden as they are such 'happy' flowers but you have inspired me to extend the colour palette somewhat and integrate ornamental with vegetable and herb. Thank you.

    1. I didn't do any sunflowers yet and I love those. Once I get the garden beds figured out, next year will hopefully be the year of flowers, ha. Thank YOU!. ;-)

  7. 1st Man,

Lot's of flowers this year, looking forward to determining what to plant next planting season.
Do these flowers inspire you to plant the same?

    1. Oh yes, very much so. I've been so focused on figuring out the garden beds (and still haven't quite figured it ALL out, ha) and so next year I really want to work on getting flowers. I need to see if dahlias can be planted in Fall or what. Also need some bulbs. Thinking about going bulb crazy this year. I bet all of your flowers are beautiful in person!!

  8. I don't know what they are, but they are really pretty. My neighbor took packets of seeds and just flung the seeds out in vague rows. They overlapped as she just backed up and sowed another packet. I have a picture somewhere that I would have to scan. But, she never used bulbs and had beauty all the time. Even after she could not garden, she still had flowers in the spot she used since the self-sowed year after year.

    1. I so (or is that SEW? haha) need to figure that out. I guess they do have to be put into the ground somehow. Maybe there is an attachment for my mower that will pull along behind it and plow up a small section here and there. Then I could just put seeds down by the hundreds. I'm ok with that! Thank you!!
