COLORFUL BEEHIVES, INSPIRATION THURSDAY

For today's inspiration post, we're going across the pond to Europe...

With the cold and snowy Winter weather settling in over much of our country, I wanted to find a Winter-ish picture.  OK, we will never EVER have this kind of weather in these parts (light snow, once in a blue moon, but heavy snow, never).  Still, I just couldn't resist this picture.  These are BEEHIVES in Europe.  They are so pretty, lined up and painted such vibrant colors.  I'm sure they are neat looking in the Spring but in this Winter setting, they are just so beautiful.  If anything, maybe it can inspire color in landscaping by painting outdoor accessories and furniture in colors.

For us, it kind of inspires me to want to paint our beehives (coming soon by the way), a fun color (with safe paint of course).  We probably won't end up painting them, they'll most likely stay white, but it's still fun to see.

Be inspired! (or is that BEE inspired?)

  1. Those are beautiful and will make a lovely screen save for this very cold winter day. I like the idea of bright colors for your hives.

    1. Good idea! I'm sure you guys are SUPER cold, I feel bad complaining about upper 20's low 30's but it so unusual for us I have to mention it, ha. You stay safe and warm!!

  2. I love it!!! I wonder if the bees have a preference? I wonder if a bee from the yellow house would rather reside in a blue one, can it just swap? Seriously though, if you have more than one hive do the bees stick to their own hive or do they visit all hives? I am very ignorant when it comes to bees, don't even like honey.

    1. They stick to there own hives if they tried to enter another hive they would get attacked by the defenders.

    2. Yes, bees know their own hive, in a field of dozens of hives. Fascinating creatures for sure, and I can't wait to get to know them better. Just like Dawn said, they will defend their hive from 'strangers'. And Fiona, you don't like honey? Dang, it's one of the best things you can eat. :-)

  3. At least they can all get home if their sense of smell is overcome. I have been painting yard furniture all different colors. Pretty picture.

    1. People do paint them, you have to use safe paint of course, the only downside I've read about painting is that you have to redo it often because of weather. Sorry you are allergic, I've bene stung a few times and never had a reaction so I'm hoping that means I'm safe. Still going to have a suit and gloves of course, ha.

  7. 1st Man,

I love this idea, in fact I would paint my hives the same color as my outside chairs.
Make the back area more of a ZEN garden.

  8. I have seen painted hives before and considered painting mine but as they are occupied it would be a bit tricky, it would have to be done from new, perhpas any new ones I get might be painted :-)
