Saw this beauty on a tree far away.
Couldn't really tell what it was at first...
So I pulled out the telephoto lens for my camera and captured the closeup below. It's funny, with its legs on the branch, it almost looked fake at first, like it was propped up there.

I would not want to mess with those talons though. Yikes!

...but wow, what a majestic bird it was in flight. It spent the better part of the afternoon gliding and soaring overhead. We enjoy sharing our property with all the wonderful wildlife we have around this part of the state, except maybe for a few of the creepy crawlies, LOL!
It is a beautiful bird of prey. I love the colours. What is it?

ReplyDeleteThis Crested Caracara is gorgeous, I haven't seen any of them up this way. We have seen the Bald Eagle up at several of the parks just east and north of us.

ReplyDeleteUp where I live in north Iowa, the bald eagles are gaining in population. Just within the last couple to three years, we finally, have some nesting along the Cedar River here. And, then there is the Famous Eagles of Decorah, Iowa, which I think our eagles are some of their babies. M
I love that they are gaining in population. Such a beautiful and majestic bird. I will have to Google the Decorah Eagles!
DeleteSuch a beautiful bird. We don't get many exciting birds out our way. We do have a resident mating pair of great horned owls each year and we enjoy their hooting at night.
