Leonard Nimoy passed away today. I'll admit, big old Trekkie here (and so is 2nd Man as well as many of our extended family and friends). Others from the cast have passed as well over the years, but he was special. We all probably identified with one of the characters on the show, and I perhaps identified with him the most. Someone different, someone who might be considered an outcast in different circumstances, but someone that proved they could rise above any those differences and do good things.
I had the pleasure of meeting him in person when I was younger, and I can say he was the kindest and most genuine "star" you could ever meet. He truly appreciated the fans. How fitting that his final, beautiful tweet was a quote with a garden reference about life...
On February 22, he tweeted:
"A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP"
Thank you Mr. Nimoy, for making my childhood more adventurous and my adulthood more purposeful.
You lived long, but not long enough, and you made us prosper.
A sad day indeed.

DeleteMy toes do the Vulcan salute. This just started a few years ago and not willingly. I suspect there is a muscle or nerve problem. I cannot pull the toes together. Yes, it is weird and people laugh.

OK, I know it happened earlier today but I just got home and was blog surfing and this was the first I heard of it. How sad. Loved Mr. Spock. He WILL be missed. Part of my youth as well. Oh who am I kidding, part of my adulthood too.

ReplyDeleteWhat? Ha, I understand...it wasn't for everyone. Hey, the remake from 2009 with Zachary Quinto playing Mr. Spock is a great way to start a new fan. It's VERY well done...and Leonard Nimoy makes an appearance. Even friends of ours who weren't original Star Trek fans loved the remake.
DeleteLN was my favorite character from Star Trek. I tuned in every week wen he was the host of Unsolved Mysteries. I nearly passed out when he had a recurring role on Fringe. And I giggled every time on Big Bang Theory the guys said "Rock, Scissors, Lizard, Spock".

Because I grew up with Star Trek, I sort of think the actors will be around forever. Now that I'm, well, so so much older, it shocks me when older actors pass. Very sad news indeed. I saw a documentary yesterday that featured William Shatner talking with Leonard Nimoy. I really enjoyed it for its down to earth presentation and its insightfulness. It was just two friends talking about all aspects of their life. He will be missed.
