Here in the middle of Winter, cold, dreary, and (for many of us) frozen...it's nice to see pretty pictures like this and dream of Spring, right? We love the various ares of plantings in this picture. We're also leaning toward painting our garden fence white. We have let it weather but we still keep coming back to pictures with white picket fences and we love it so much.
We will have that to think about this Spring and so many other things to do, but of course, it's fun to plan and dream now. Where does one start with something like this? Perhaps right around the fence and then spread outward...
Be inspired!
Just remember, when you paint it white, you gotta keep painting it every so often. Nothing looks worse than a raggedy looking white fence that hasn't been painted in years. It quickly shows you are neglecting it, whereas if it is just weathered, well, that just looks natural.

DeleteI would have to agree with KCD, besides that list is never going to be completed if you keep adding to it, and in winter too! LOL. I love looking at pictures like this. I always get envious of people who can have such open gardens. Living so close to the bush, we have to have everything totally enclosed. If we don't the possums and the birds eat everything long before they are even ripe.
ReplyDeleteWell burst my bubble, LOL! Just teasing....totally understand and agree. We do have a 'longer term' list...we could at it to that, ha. Not sure how much open we can have either, our ground is so tough but we'll see what we can make happen.
DeleteWhat I learned from reading Painted Ladies about painting houses can be applied here. Use an oil base that soaks in. Then, use water base so rain rolls off. Never spray paint. fence in need of painting just looks shabby chic.
ReplyDeleteAs for the plantings, remember they will look sparse before they fill in like pictures in books. The other concern for me would be spending too much time on flowers instead of edibles. That is my downfall. I did not grow one thing to eat last year, but I had time to spend worrying over tulips and other flowers. LOL...but you have more energy than I.

Awesome, thank you for that idea. I will keep that in mind. Perhaps there is a way to accomplish it. True, food feeds the body, but hey, flowers feed the soul, right? ;-)

DeleteReally pretty picture! There’s nothing prettier than a white picket fence with colorful flowers. But I think after a while I’d be pulling a Tom Sawyer trick to get the fence painted!

That's beautiful--so beautiful. My yard will never look that nice because my neighborhood was built on a swamp.

Isn't it pretty? Hey, we might not have a neighborhood at the farm but the soil is so much clay so who knows, we might as well have a swamp, ha.
DeletePictures like this are so pretty to look at and great for the city life curb appeal, but for me; in the country, I think more Naturalizing has more appeal.
