SIGH...pouring rain...nothing at all happening outside this weekend...
We are up another inch 2 inches and counting...under a flash flood watch until midnight tonight, possibly changing changed to a flash flood warning this afternoon and extending into Sunday.
Don't get me wrong, we love the rain, water is the lifeblood of the Earth, but can't it just come during the week instead of the weekend?
I've got things to do! Time's a wasting!! I feel like the garden is going to get behind if I can't get out there and do something soon. Hope YOUR weekend is more productive than ours will be.
Afternoon update:
One of our dear friends and her husband are having their 40th Anniversary party tonight and sadly, we (and several other invited guests) can't make it as many roads around town are flooded, and had to cancel.
So we will tell them here for the rest of the world to see:

1st Man - can you please keep the rain down there??? we are under a rain advisory warning - it is supposed to start this evening and rain right on through to tomorrow. then tomorrow afternoon we are under a flash freeze advisory. with all of the snow that we already have AND torrential rain and a flash freeze - we are going to be under 10ft of ice until july - arghghghghgh!

Thank you very much, yeah, I hate this weather, like the water but not the rain. A flash freeze? I've never had to deal with that, that sounds crazy. You stay dry AND warm AND safe!!

No, we don't have gutters yet on the farm. That's happening soon, as soon as we get the new roof. Of course I should just have some open barrels to at least collect as much as we can.

ReplyDeleteOur weather boffins keep promising us some. And then they change their minds. Tomorrow perhaps. And all we get is incontinent pigeon rain. Splat, splat and it is gone.
And the garden is crispified. And/or wilting. Sigh.
I wish I could figure out how to send it, ha. I'll run out and do a little rain dance...oh wait, that might bring us more rain, ha. .

ReplyDeleteI have this feeling that we're getting all of our rains now and when we will really need come this summer we won't get any only wishing we would get some rain showers.
We just gotta take what Mother Nature gives us I guess and deal with it and do the best we can with what we get.
When I can't go outside to work, I work inside, baking or making dishes to put in freezer.
Yep, amen to that. The summer we might be wishing for these rains. At least the wells and ponds and such are filled up.

Oh dear, its man take heart. All this water will make your weeding so much easier when you finally get out there and it will raise the water table nicely which will be beneficial to your plants. Seedlings don't do too well in lots of rain anyway as they get waterlogged...too much of a good thing! So take heart, once the sun does come out more regularly your plants will bolt ahead and make up for lost time.

DeleteHow safe is the farm from flooding? Are you and 2nd man able to evacuate if needed?
ReplyDeleteThe farm is safe from flooding, the house is actually at the high point of the property. There is no danger of a flood...the only 'danger' per se is not being able to leave for a day or two with the roads. When 2nd Family's daughter was a baby, they had some major flooding in the area and needed diapers, it took him an hour just to find a way out onto the main roads and that was driving through some high water. We'd be ok as long as we had our supplies stocked up.
DeleteI remember the streets of Galveston flooding within minutes. Hope all turns out O.K.
ReplyDeleteYep, most of the streets in Houston flood in minutes too, ha. We were ok. Just stayed in until the water receded and it did, always does that pretty fast. Thank you for thinking of us!!
DeleteY’all got more rain than I did - about an inch here. I’m getting antsy also about planting. I bought lots of seeds, some tomato and pepper seedlings, and some gorgeous geraniums and gerbera daisies - all ready to go when it dries out a bit.
ReplyDeleteAt least all the aquifers and lakes are getting re-charged, which we’ll need for sure this summer when everything is as dry as dust.

It was a monsoon here, and the farm got a lot as well. You know, I was saying that to 2nd Man, the aquifers always need to be replenished and the wells will be good and full as well.

It has been drizzling here for hours and hours. I am not sure, but I think all this is coming from your direction. However, I hope it does not strengthen to hard rain. My power steering is gone, so I had no where to go and cannot do much in the yard. Of course, I don't feel like doing anything, so being in the house and sitting is okay with me. Hopefully, you will get a dry weekend sooner rather than later.

Hello from here in North Yorkshire in the UK where we farm in the Yorkshire Dales. I found your blog by a roundabout route. We have been to Texas several times - couldn't be more different than it is here - we are all grass fields, sheep and cattle, hens and a veggie garden. Semi-retired but looking after our land.
