Another full day, all is well, though we're back in town now under tornado warning (North of us, thankfully), thunderstorm warnings, and we're having quarter size hail, heavy rain, wind and lighting. The farm looks like it was spared the bad stuff, thankfully.
I'll post tomorrow about how it all went but thought we'd mention this, the naming of our hives! We tossed around several ideas, using the names of stars, planets, royalty, flowers, vegetables and the one that came closest, herbs...but in the end we decided to go back in time. We are using the names of goddesses, queens and other characters from ancient Greek mythology!
And so, without further ado, we introduce:
Queen Ariadne
and her next hive neighbor,
Queen Persephone
Queen Persephone
The names will be used to identify our hives. When we make notes, we'll be able to write Ariadne Hive (or Hive A) and Persephone Hive (or Hive P) to keep track of how they are doing.

I love your names! You are very creative. I would have never thought of that. An they, aren't there hundreds of names of women in Greek mythology? You should be set for a long time, haha. And your white with the red trim is so pretty and farm-y looking (I guess that's now a real word) but you know what i mean.

DeleteI didn't expect to see red on the hives. But, it just echoes the barn colors. I love the names!
ReplyDeleteYou must have missed the post where I painted them. Yep, we wanted to echo the barn colors but since hives (in our heat) need to be light color, I flipped it and went white with red trim. :-)

DeleteLove your names and they are so creative for bee hives! Whenever you start getting more honey than you can use, I would love to buy two jars. One of each. Plant lots of wildflowers on your property!

DeleteVery classy names. The hives look great. I didn't realize you could have hives so close together, let alone 2 queens. In my ignorance of such thing as I thought it would cause competition. I can't wait to read about all your new buzzy adventures.
