OK, this one is a 'new' inspiration for us. Since we have a new mini woodland area at the farm HERE, we get to look at ideas on things we could do someday. This picture really caught our eye. The newly cleared area is surrounded by sunny spots, moving into the shady area and this looks like a nice combination of the two.
There has to be a place to sit of course, and we've always loved those retro metal chairs. That makes this photo really appealing to us. Not sure if I'd be able to keep such a sharp edge between the grass the dirt, but something in between would be fine. Hey, it's all about where we get the inspiration, right?
Be inspired!
That does look like a lovely spot. Enjoy planning your woodland garden. YOU'll have to check out Margaret Roache in A Way to Garden http://awaytogarden.com/about/
ReplyDeleteAwesome link, thank you!!! And I know you have a beautiful woodlands area yourself! I take inspiration from you too.
DeleteBeautiful Inspiration for sure.
ReplyDeleteIn order to get a nice clean edge along a flower bed you use a half moon edger and of course a trimmer.
I found a link on the 'how-to's in creating a nice clean edge and having it look like a pro.

What a great link!! Thanks for that, some great info there.
Deletei love my wooded area. i have about 5 sitting spots along the path and you really can't see them until you come up upon them.
ReplyDeleteYours is so pretty too. I take inspiration from it as well. I like the idea of 'hidden' (ish) seating. Thanks!!
DeleteLovely! You do realize that these pictures we all admire are usually prepped right before the shoot? Anything approximating this look will be great. The retro chairs make this look like they were just forgotten in the woods.
ReplyDeleteYou are right. We have beds such as these and you do have to weed, prune, rake and keep them up. I'm working in them every weekend but it is worth it.
DeleteOh, definitely understand that. I like to use them as a suggestion, ha. Those chairs are cool huh? There is a place near the house in town that has them. I know it will require constant upkeep but I'm willing to give it a go, ha.
DeleteWhat a beautiful spot - so peaceful! I like the meandering path to the seating area.
ReplyDeleteSome shade-tolerant plants for this area: azaleas, caladiums, camellia, hydrangea, variegated ginger, ferns such as autumn fern, holly fern, maidenhair fern, Japanese painted fern. Some annuals: coleus, impatiens, begonias, torenia. And of course, you’re going to be enjoying iced tea there, so mints (in containers!) for the tea.
Look at you, dang, you know your plants! Thanks for that. I didn't think about mints, they grow in dappled light? Will have to check that out. Thanks!!
DeleteYou are right.........such an inspiring photo! Dreams and a little elbow grease should get it done.........maybe??
ReplyDeleteDreams always go best with elbow grease huh? Hey, we'll do what we can and it will be our own special spot, ha.
DeleteLove it - though I would lean towards (and against) wooden chairs. With an armrest large enough for a cuppa and a book.
ReplyDeleteThanks, will keep that in mind. Definitely a book reading area huh? Never thought about that. Love it! Thanks!
