MORE CURTAIN DOORS UP

Rainy/muddy day meant we were able to get an inside thing done and scratched off the list of THINGS TO DO.

These were the last two curtain doors left in the house.  I blogged HERE about them when we first put them up in the doorways in the living room to one bedroom and in the kitchen to the guest room.  Later on, we put one between the foyer and living room and between the living room and kitchen.  They have been such a perfect solution that we thought we should 'finish' the house with the rest and get them before, with our luck, they discontinue the brand (isn't that the way it always works? LOL).

We still had two doorways left to do.  This is the one from the kitchen into the dining room and in the background you can see the doorway into the mudroom.  The curtains are heavy enough that we need a stronger tension rod.

Once we got that up, it's just a matter of putting the curtains on the rods.  We like these curtains because they have the large, grommeted openings so that they slide back and forth very easily.
Using curtains as doors
Here is the view from the dining room after they were up.  To the left is the kitchen doorway and to the right is the mudroom.

While we don't leave the curtain doors in the house closed all the time, the nice thing about them is that they allow us to keep rooms cool/warm as needed without worry.  For example, during freezes in the Winter, we can keep a small heater in the mudroom, close off the doorway and keep it warm in there.  Or when we are there and it's cold, no point in heating rooms we aren't in.  In the heat of Summer, 2nd Man can close off the kitchen and keep the cool air in there instead of cooling the dining room where no one will be.  They also have a way of softening the rooms and making them more cozy, if that makes sense.

At least we have another small project scratched off the list.

  1. What a clever idea. Absolutely Love them curtains and they really serve your purpose nicely.
I have been looking for something like that. May I ask where you bought them at?
Enjoy your day and hopefully we'll have a dry weekend but I doubt it very much after listening to the forecast.
Sunday morning early we received over 5inches of rain )probably close to 7 inches as our rain gauge ran over) within 5 hours.

    2. Yep BB&B. I can't remember what they are called, I want to say Medina, but not 100% sure.

We've had 6 inches here not counting today. It's crazy wet.

  3. Those are great! I would like to take down the French doors that separate my family room and laundry room and have a bookcase built in their place. Then the French doors could go between the family room and dining room.

    Love,
    Janie

    1. Good eye! I gave those, at various times, to 2nd Man for his baking use. He loves putting bread on them and keeping things at hand. He oils them and cleans them everytime we use them, they stay pretty clean. But he's fastidious like that, you know how that can be, ha.

    1. It's an always battle to do huh? Thanks, we don't have much room, well, none actually, for doors and just feel like these were a good solution. It's mostly about keeping temps regulated, ha. Thank you!!!!

    1. They did still have a few but the larger sizes were hard to find (and to hit up 3 stores). But it's done and we're happy. ;-)

  9. 1st Man,

I love hanging curtains in doorways to help with keeping a section closed off in the house....like you mentioned, having the curtains helps with not having to heat/cool areas in the house not being used.

Will your cats play with the curtains when passing through each room? Our dog loves to rub up against anything hanging. Including when we hang stuff outside on the clothes line......he's so silly that way.

    1. That's the most important reason we did it, especially with window units and space heaters. We can keep it regulated a bit better.

The cats were funny, they get confused on how to get in and out. But they did figure out how to pull the curtain open with their front paws.

Now that's too cute about him rubbing up against the clothes. It's probably like getting free pettings, ha.

  10. What a smart idea and very practical. I love how they blend into the rest of the wall.

    1. They do...we originally (when we did the other rooms last time) had beige but the color different with the walls was just too startling. Plus if the room colors were different (blue for example in the bedroom), the beige didn't look right. So we traded them out for white. :-)
