BREAKING NEWS

We have an offer on the house!
For those who may have missed a post, we have put our house in town on the market as we downsize and clean out 16 years of hoarding clutter stuff so that we can move to a high rise apartment in downtown Houston.

It will be the last stop for a few years before we end up at the farm.

Selling the house gives us the equity that will allow us to do more things at the farm as well, in order to make it more livable/comfortable.  Things like the new roof we've put off for two seasons now, central heat and maybe central a/c, electricity run to the barns, exterior painting and new doors, some fencing, etc.

So anyway, it's been on the market for more than 60 days, we were a bit nervous but yesterday, we ended up with not just one but TWO offers!  It was a bit of a bidding war (nothing wrong with that!) and we ended up with a great offer (after staying up till about 1am back and forth)!  We're happy and ready to move to the apartment.  What we haven't shared with you is that we had to sign the lease on the apartment!  The building we wanted to be in has a long waiting list for the unit we wanted so when it became available, we either had to go ahead and lease it, or pass and possibly not have the apartment when the house sold.  We have paid rent November and now for December.  It's been tough but looking up now!

We're just grateful we have a good offer and now we can prepare for this next phase of our lives as we journey toward the farm.

We've already sorted and gotten rid of and/or moved to the farm, most of the stuff in the house so all that is left is what is going to the apartment.  Just have to get through the inspection process and make sure we keep moving toward closing, currently scheduled before 12/31/15.

    1. HA! Snake proofing, need to add that to the list, ha. And you might not want to read an upcoming post about a snake (but at least it wasn't in the house, ha). Thank you!

  3. Congrats! It is never when you think it will happen. Since Sept., I've sold, bought, packed and moved, stored and cleaned out. You can hardly tell a difference. I hadn't moved in more than 30 years and it is still ongoing as we have a city house and the farm. I guess someday, we'll get there, or else the kids will be left to deal with it. They would have a fit.

    1. I can totally understand. And we had so much after 16 years I can't imagine what we'd have for 30. And no kids to deal with it, ha. Thanks!!!

  5. Hooray - that is a wonderful feeling to have the end in sight of the double house payments (or maybe triple if you are paying for the farm too). When we moved to the country, it took another 18 months to sell our house - glad you are getting out by the end of the year!!!

    1. Actually, yes, glad you said that, yep, three payments. That was never the plan but we make do what we can, right? With lower oil prices we were worried about people buy here in Houston, it slowed down but the right person at the right time came along.

  6. Congrats! Selling a house is always such a nerve-wracking process with having to keep everything ship shape at all times...one month often seems like one year! Fingers crossed that it's smooth sailing until your closing date.

    1. Yes, we are trying to prioritize, Might not do them all at the same time but we'll see. I vote for roof/gutters first, 2nd Man wants a/c and heat. Of course it will be Spring so we won't NEED either then so we'll see. A new roof before the rainy/monsoon season would be good, ha.

  17. Congrats! Once the deal closes you can breath a big sign of relief. 2 offers & a small bidding war - all good things. I'm not surprised about the required lease on the apt.. Out here, it hard to rent anything without a lease needing to be signed. On the positive side, a lease usually protects the renters from unexpected rent increases. Your life being divided between city high rise living & weekends on the farm remind me of old TV show "Green Acres". You will have the best of both worlds. Wonderful news about the sale. You must be very excited to move into your new apartment.
