OUTDOOR LIVING ROOM, INSPIRATION THURSDAY

Every Thursday, we like to post a picture of something we've found online that inspires us to do something similar at the farm.
Sort of our own blog bulletin board so that we can eventually look back and hopefully recreate it...enjoy!

As Winter sets in, finally, our thoughts of course turn immediately to Spring, LOL.  So I looked up photos we have saved and found this. Definitely makes me think of Spring and all the potential.  We love the idea (and many of you have suggested it) of making outdoor "rooms"....and I guess you could call this an outdoor living room.  A couple of wicker/outdoor pieces, an old weathered coffee table, a unifying color, tucked under a tree, wouldn't it be a great place to sit and visit with friends?  On a nice cool day of course.

Be Inspired...

  2. One side of my yard is like a Great Room, no sections, just spots for conversation or sitting. I love that table!

I put in a new "spot" after I had the outdoor faucet installed because the stairs to basement were too treacherous for exbf or me. Near the faucet but not where it will get soggy, I placed two chairs, a table from a bistro set and a shorter table. I can sit there or he can and wash anything that needs to be washed. The place is well-appointed with a bottle of dish liquid, scrubby, and cloth. Living with chickens requires washing things. I can move the hose to larger things. But, my back and knees love sitting when working.

I am not through with the area, but will not invest money there. I will find what I need. The one thing I had to buy was too chairs that I got for 75% off last summer. My other lawn chairs broke, so this was purely for necessity not because I wanted new chairs!

Okay, the rooms don't have to be so divided or out of sight. Think of areas of your yard as a great room with many areas. Maybe the loft idea is another way to think of the large areas of yard.

    1. Wow, you have some great ideas. That's what we want, something like little rooms around to just stop and rest, take a break, have a snack, or just observe (wait, aren't those all the same thing? ha). I'm like you, I like to sit when working if I can. Love the idea of a great room with many areas. We definitely have a great room, ha.

  3. Rooms outside are great except if you put cushions you have to be sure to store them before it rains. I'll stick to my screen porch room. I'm outside on three of four sides.

    1. I never put cushions on my outdoor furniture for that reason.

    2. We"d LOVE a screened room, perhaps someday. They are SO nice and pretty! But yep, cushions will definitely have to store in the barn. We'd probably just leave them in there until we need to use them.

  4. Looks great. And super inviting. I would find it hard to do all that needed to be done with that temptation in my way.

    1. That table is neat for sure. Love that color yellow too. Hey, we're into the 50's now so places to sit are becoming more 'popular', ha.

    1. We are kind of the opposite...usually mild Fall, Winter (mostly) and Spring, then Summer is just unbearable, ha. Heat/Cold they both do their thing on us huh?

  7. Please do create one and share pictures of it. We are in the process of doing the same at the lake, but I want to do it for as little cash outlay as possible.

    1. Will DEFINITELY let you know. We want to do for as little cash too. I like seeing these inspirations online and then copying it for a discount. We decorate inside like that too.

  8. Love this idea; currently looking for flour sack - type material to make cushions for my bench. I just love the thought of that kind of rustic touch.
