WEEKEND UPDATE

It was a beautiful blue day, clear skies and fairly cool.  Got to the farm and it was about 52.  Jacket weather for sure.  I unloaded a few more things that wouldn't fit at the apartment...

Then I went exploring to check on things.  It was very wet, our last rain was a few days ago but the temps have been so cool and it's been so overcast, there was very little evaporation or drying out.  The trees are sufficiently spooky this time of year...

...but the grass trails are still green. Go figure. These are the trails through the dewberry patch.

...and best of all, the bees, the surviving hive that was tipped over in a mystery incident, seems to be thriving.  It's been long enough that if the queen had died or left, there would not be this many bees in and out.  So fingers still crossed, all is going well.

  1. Glad your hive is doing good.. I have not had five minutes to get started painting my hives and supers! I have to go back to work on Monday...But all is okay :O).... DH said to me today, have you ordered your bees... I said no and I am not going to till I have all the hive boxes and supers painted and get them set up on stands where I want them etc etc... ready for bees! Have not even ordered my stands yet! :O)

I am not letting this stress me out LOL. I will get them painted all pretty and like I want. IF by chance I don't get it done in time for bees come this spring... then by next spring I will be so set up and so ready ahead of time its not even funny! The main thing is I have the hive boxes finally and the supers and the paint and my smoker and hive tools etc all here!... Do need to get on ordering those stands! I have the link you gave me still :O) on those.

I have had wine making equipment for nearly a year and I am just now feeling informed enough to do it.. Yeast is ordered and should be here any day now. I have the recipe I am going to use and I am ready to go... First batch Blackberry Merlot of course!

Rome wasn't built in a day I keep telling myself!! The important thing is to keep moving forward toward all the goals!! :O)

Here is a to a wonderful spring and summer garden and bee season!

    1. You and I think so much alike. That's what i did with our bees. Was going to have it two seasons ago, got most of the stuff but didn't get to the bees and just waited until I got the bees last season. All good things come in time! Blackberry merlot? Now that gives me incentive to get some blackberry vines planted for the future. We also have some muscadines...need to get those planted in the Spring too. We'll get there, both of us!!

  2. Glad to hear your bees are okay! We finally got around to processing the last 6 frames of honey we pulled from our hives last August. The bees were delighted to help with the cleanup and did a much better job than we ever could have with soap and water!!

    1. Wow, that's good to hear, thanks for that. I've heard that bees can clean them up nicely, we haven't gotten to that point but I can't wait! Thanks!!

  4. Today, the fluffy clouds cleared to show the most beautiful blue skies, like yours in the pictures. My St. Augustine grass should be brown and crunchy by now. It is very green and shows no sign of dying out anytime soon. However, it is supposed to be 25 F tomorrow night, so it might die back soon.

It's late, but I am going to cook potatoes in chicken broth and some vegetables that have been cooking since I took the chicken tenders out.

  5. That is great news about the bees and the grass. Do you feed the bees or do they have pollen still to gather?

    1. Believe it or not, with our weird weather down here, they are still gathering pollen. But we will still put some food in for them if needed. They do have all their honey, we didn't harvest any so they would have it all so they should be ok with that too.

  8. I don't get spooky with all that sunshine and blue skies, but I can see, as the sun eases over the western horizon, how that tree would creep folks out. Brrrrrr.

I hope that you all will bee happy and healthy this year!

    1. Yeah, if it was gloomy and dark it would definitely be spooky but the mesquite are kind of creepy in their own way when 'naked', ha.

      Don't worry BEE happy? LOL!
