METAL CART FIND

I have a new favorite place to look for bargains...our downstairs trash area!  Our building has trash chutes on every floor of course and they feed into a separate room, but for boxes and other things that you can't put in the chute, there is an area (indoors) near the loading dock for people to put things they don't want.

I've come to find all SORTS of cool stuff.  The other night, I went down to check the mail and stopped by that area...and found THIS!!!!

It's a cart, of some sort.  Serving cart?  Bar cart?  Outdoor cart?
Not sure...

It's got great details, curves and a deep top...

Even the wheels are neat, very industrial looking...

It's got a great shape and two levels of use.
It rolls around very well too.

Metal Rolling Cart
It's distressed looking, not sure if that's "natural" or "man made".  In fact, it's hard to tell if it's old and vintage or new and made to "look" vintage. Either way, we love it!  It's already at the farm (took it over the weekend).

Cost:  FREE!  (the best kind!)

Not sure if I'll paint it or leave it as is.  Not even sure what we'll use it for (we already have a bar table at the farm) but this has a lot of potential. Maybe a cart for outdoor dining/drinking?

Any suggestions?
Uses?  Painting?  Decorating?

  1. I love this!! What a great find. I would use it on your porch (maybe keep it inside until needed) to serve drinks/food outside. Thanks for sharing. And yep, I bet you will find some great stuff in that "repurpose area" ha. Vicki V

    1. Great idea. We were thinking of some sort of outdoor use but yeah, probably best to keep it inside when not in use. And I like your name, it's not the trash area, it's the "repurpose area", ha.

  2. I would say bar cart, but you said you had one. However, if it's not on wheels, you will need a bar cart OUTSIDE too. Ha!

  3. Great find for sure.
My husband has something on the order of this that he using in his workshop.
    When he's building or working on some sort of project, he puts his tools; drill, hammer, small tools, hand saw, etc., in the tray so that they are handy when he needs them. Once finished with his project he wheels the cart over to where all his tools belong and puts away...........well, sometimes they get put away where they belong. :}
Cart can be used for whatever your little heart desires. Can even set potted plants in it if you wish.
    Of course like Anonymous mentioned; everyone needs wine / bar cart :}

    2. I thought about the barn, for tools and stuff but I'm not to that point yet in the barn (that will be a whole OTHER clean up/organize time in the future, ha). I think use for outdoor dining is good, be it bar or wine or 'regular' drinks. And yes, I think some rustoleum red.

  4. DITTO, Colleen.......red! Your bright farmhouse red color. Now maybe I'm a bit too girly but I'd maybe put a stencil design of some sort too. Enjoy and you will find lots more stuff, you'd be surprised what people get rid of.

    1. Another vote for red! Thanks! I like the idea of a stencil design. Not too girly at all. Thanks for the suggestion. And what's that phrase, one man's trash another man's treasure? Yep, I'll be checking it out all the time now. Mail, trash, mail, trash....

  5. Not just a bar/wine cart but if you had a group over, you could do candy in clear glass jars, a wide variety of colorful candy, it's so pretty. I saw the idea on Pinterest. Other ideas, a hot dog cart with all the sides. Or if you work fast, and use a insulated cooler of some sort, an ice cream cart with sprinkles and everything that goes with that. Or a taco cart for taco night. The possibilities are endless. GREAT find, you are so lucky!

  6. I would love to have something like this while I am gardening. Particularly while I am potting things. Somewhere for the potting mix, the plants, the pots, the tools...

    1. Ooh, gardening is a good idea. Though it might need some more substantial wheels for the grass in our yard, ha.

  7. love, LoVe, LOVE this!!! I say paint the outside of the cart a bright white, the inside of the trays a vibrant yellow and stencil your farmhouse red in the shape of a pig. I would stencil Seda Bolsa on the long side edge (i.e Seda Bolsa est. 2010)

Use Rustoleum and keep it on your covered porch and it will hold up just fine. I vote for using it as a drink/ snack station when whiling the days on the porch.

I can picture it already...On the top shelf, an ice cold decanter of lemonade and sparkling glasses as they catch the sunlight; a crisp red and white gingham towel draped over the handle; and on the bottom shelf a platter of mini sandwiches covered with a mesh dome.

    YAY for free stuff!

  10. Free is always the best. I think it looks a surgical instrument trolley. I have seen these years ago, 1980s when my mother was long term in an NHS hospital. What about some paint and use scandinavian folk art symbols. not too many one or two. that goes with a red and white them.

    1. Wow, it does kinda look like that huh? Thanks for this background. I like the fold art symbol idea. Thank you for this! Stay tuned!

  11. My son in Nashville just found the same type of cart and he lined the trays with rough cedar planks and stained them. He has a small kitchen so now he has a small mobile kitchen island. He didn't paint it cause he likes the "rustic"look.

  12. Bev here, I love it. What a fabulous find I'm never that lucky. I like the ideas given using it for extra space when outside eating drinking. I think I would vote for white with red trim and accents. Love the symbols idea or stencil design, and the name of your farm. I must have missed that somewhere. Maybe a sheet of glass cut to fit in the top to orotect what design you put on it?

    1. A vote for white! As for the farm name, I have a post about it, I might just have to update that for all the new followers and visitors. Thanks! I love the idea of a sheet of glass to protect the bottom. Plus easy to clean. Thanks gain!

  13. This has entertainment cart written all over it. Bar or food cart, this has outside written all over it. As much as I love the way it looks though if I were going to use it with anything consumable I would paint or seal it because it could possibly have lead paint.

    1. OOH! Never thought about that. Thanks for the safety tip. I will remember that. And yep, it does kinda scream "outside", ha.

  14. I would love to paint something yellow that is outdoors. But, I don't because stinging insects are drawn to yellow. I think white with the name of the farm in red would work. Plus, you can stencil on chickens, cows, all the things you have, see, or aspire to have on the farm.

    1. Yellow is interesting but I didn't know that about stinking insects. And another vote for white. I'll keep everyone posted!

  16. That would make an awesome porch wince cart, but I'd probably use it for an art cart. http://www.suburble.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/The-Art-Cart-an-Ikea-shelf-Suburble.com-1-of-1.jpg

  17. I LOVE how and where you find the coolest things! What a great find! It looks really sturdy. Great for your parties under your beautiful trees. And like others suggested, the barn colors of red and white would look really good.

    1. Yep, might as well stay with the theme. This might have to be a Fall project....but it should be really nice when I get it fixed up. Thanks!!

  18. OK. I have just discovered you and have been following you. Time to chime in. We are in similar situations. Bought a place and fixing her up. Only we are doing it ourselves. Love your site. Now... as for your cart. Love the color choices, red with your name or design stenciled on it. Great idea. However I haven't seen anyone suggest using it in the bath area. Stack it with white bath towels on the bottom and your choice of handmade soaps and the like on the top. In a pinch use it for a rolling breakfast bar when you have guests. Coffee, espresso, kolaches, and all the nessessary 'stuff' that gets us going in the morning.
