TREE TABLE, INSPIRATION THURSDAY

Every Thursday, we like to post a picture of something we've found online that inspires us to do something similar at the farm.
Sort of our own blog bulletin board so that we can eventually look back and, hopefully anyway, recreate it...enjoy!

When looking at ideas for seating areas around trees, we stumbled across this...literally a seating area AROUND a tree, ha.  Kind of a cool idea.  Great for dining of course, as in this picture, but I was thinking more of something along the lines of a writing table.  A place to sit and blog, write, think, plan. And while I am quite sure this isn't TOO hard to make, I have zero wood working tools that would allow this (for now anyway), cutting curves is not easy as it looks ha.

But we do have a tree that that would work for this and so now we add this to our list of future projects.

Be inspired!

  1. Quite a neat idea. Fine place for writing, thinking, planning, etc.
Don't think I really would want to eat or have anything to drink while under the tree. My luck, a bird would land or fly over and make it's deposit of something that I wouldn't want.
Making curves,(outside frame) not all that difficult as it can be made into hexagon shape all cut at same angel and secured together as you go around the tree and for the top base you use fence boards having support underneath to secure the boards to and for the legs; 2x4's cut at angel both top and bottom and making sure the legs are all sitting level.

    1. Oh, a hexagon, I like that idea too. That would be something I could make. Thanks!! And I hear ya on the birds, but I just think it's too small to even enjoy a meal, but a great space for writing, etc.

  2. Well it looks cool but I find a tall vase of flowers in the middle of my table annoying as I can't see around/over it. A whole tree trunk would make me nuts! LOL!

    1. Oh I can TOTALLY understand that...I hate leaning around a too big centerpiece, ha.

  3. And you would need to give the tree room to grow...

  4. That is so adorable! I would not fear bird poop in my food. If I did, I could eat nowhere in my yard except in the blazing sun in a small space at the back of the house. The tree would not be acceptable for dining except for maybe a table for three. It would make me crazy trying to see around it. However, this would make a great place for writing. I would probably make it just because it is cool looking. It would make a great serving area if the ants did not find it. As for the tree growing, you could make extra boards to go into the area where the table could be joined instead or actually making it all so permanent. Making it not so snug would enable the tree to grow. This is such a nice picture.

    1. Thanks, yeah, sometimes you don't have a choice in location, ha. And another one for not having to "look around" at your dining companions. Service area is nice idea. And I like your 'flexibility' idea. Thanks!

  5. Oh that looks so nice, such a lovely 'pondering place' the tree looks like a very old Olive tree, so probably not much more growth room needed.
I am sure there are books or internet instructions for making such a table, you will need a jigsaw to make curved cuts, they are easy to use and not expensive ,a cordless battery operated one would be most useful, what a fun project.
It might be a good idea to keep a running list of all the things you do when out and about on the farm, so you can see what tools you use all the time. A good useful tool belt is essential, not so big that you don't like wearing it and not so small that you don't have what you need.

    1. OK, I'm so going to use that name. "the pondering tree".

And it does look like an olive huh? cool!

Thanks for the tool belt suggestion, I like that idea. And I guess in the end, it wouldn't be too hard. :-)

  6. Now that would be the ultimate office! Have you seen the tree houses people have created for personal or retreat rental use? This table would fit well.
