GREAT INTERIOR DESIGN QUOTE

Saw this quote online the other day while doing some research...
It's by the British craftsman and designer whose designs generated the Arts and Crafts movement in England, which later came to the states.

“Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful..."
                                                 William Morris

William Morris' Trellis Wallpaper, circa 1862
Words to live by for sure...
and words we will try to take to heart.

  2. Just wish I didn't think so many things are beautiful and might be useful one day.

  3. Sadly I can create "uses" for so much unnecessary junk. Maybe I need to revise it to "practical"

  4. As a beauty addict it makes for a crowded house...

  5. I like that very much. I try to create a comfortable, useful, and beautifully soothing living space. I don't worry about impressing anyone because I have no one to impress.

    Love,

    1. You know, we try to remind ourselves of that too. People very rarely come to visit at the farm and I always tell 2nd Man we need to make it comfortable for us.

  6. Great advice, the pertinent word is 'know' ......keep only things you know to be useful .....not maybe, could be or just in case.
I am decluttering at the moment and something to keep in mind is

"What if something happened to you, someone would have to deal with all your stuff ! "

That is a sobering thought for us all and I don't have a basement or attic to deal with.

    1. Yes, always focus on the "know". I'm guilty of the "might need this someday".

  7. Of course I have to add, sentimental, valuable or of curious nature. But after a year of living in a grain bin I am bringing home less and less, giving away more and more. Unfortunately we just moved our old farm store to The Poor Farm and now I have FREE REIGN for filling up that building! My goal is to do it without spending a cent.

    1. Good for you, I think it's cleansing to the mind too. But now you have the building. Maybe that can be your "just in case" space. I know you'll do something awesome with it, because you always do. :-)

  8. That is good. I have tried the last few years to keep only what I absolutely love. I've thinned a lot but have more to go.

    1. I think everyone is in a similar situation. We got rid of a lot when we moved to the apartment but we still have a storage unit full of stuff. More to go!

  9. Great quote and one to live by. A great quote to make on wood plaque especially for my hubby to see every day :}
Being I turned a year older yesterday along with a few more aches and pains; I didn't do a darn thing except for making a few more homemade Christmas cards.
