GARDEN TOTEM POLE INSPIRATION THURSDAY

Every Thursday we like to post a picture of something we've found online that inspires us to do something similar at the farm.
Sort of our own blog bulletin board so that we can eventually look back and someday, hopefully anyway, recreate it...enjoy!

Since much of what I'd normally do outside in the Winter, getting the garden built or the fruit trees planted, is now done, I'm starting to be on the lookout for Winter projects.  These are just something random that fascinate us and something I think I could handle, artistically, ha.

We'd like some yard art to scatter around the property for some interest and something handmade would be really nice. Maybe THIS Winter I can finally relax while visiting the farm and unleash my creative side in a different way!

Be inspired!

  1. How pretty these are to add color during them winter months.
I actually love the looks of the Garden Totems and can be made using fence boards, 2x4's or 4x4's.
The make for a very colorful decoration for any garden or anywhere in the yard or painting and decorating a wooden fence.
I have seen some cute totems made from recyclables; using milk cartons, vinegar containers, plastic coffee containers, etc.
Can do the same by saving and using your empty vegetable cans.
    Possibilities are endless.

    1. Oh, a fence board is smart. I like that, and they could be stuck around back in the bushes/trees to add color. Like that idea. And yep, I'm sure I'll find some great ideas as I keep searching.

    1. Ha, I kind of wish I had a big fence like that that I could do that with too.

  3. This is a pretty cool idea. I might have to consider it for the lake place, or even the back corner of my real house.

    1. I envision them tucked in here and there amongst the greenery. You could just do any design or pattern. We'll see, I'm already thinking of some things but this will be Winter for sure, ha.

  4. I painted about 8 of these a few years ago. It is fun but tedious since you have to wait for one color to dry to put another color next to it. I had bought six gallons of paint for another project, all colors that worked together. So, with free wood and paid-for paint, I was all set.

    1. Great info thanks for that. And we do have some paint saved up. I need to check the colors though and make sure they look good together ha.

  7. without spending a whole lot of money on paint for project like this; buy the, what they call OOPS paint at Home Depot. I have several of the 8oz. oops paint that I bought for 50 cents each. At times they also have gal. cans of oops paint. Every time I go to Home Depot I always check out there oops paint area.
Can also check at Lowe's as well as WalMart (I normally don't find much here, but then every store is different.)
