SATURDAY OFF TO THE FARM

Last weekend, 2nd Family gave us some fresh eggs...

Farm eggs
Oh they are always so good.  Someday, we'll have our own but we have the next best thing now...fresh eggs without all the hard work, LOL!

Pancakes, eggs and bacon
So this morning we had homemade pancakes topped with wonderful maple syrup (from a very sweet friend), fresh eggs, and some wonderful all natural fresh bacon we got last weekend at a Farmer's Market.  It was a WONDERFUL way to start the day!

Beautiful weekend ahead.  Can't go to the farm tomorrow though, we have plans, so it's make the most of today.  I'm hoping no mowing today so I can focus on some other things.  Not a lot of rain this past week so the grass probably hasn't grown much.

Hoping to finish up a couple of outside projects we'll share details of soon and cleaning the back of the house where there is mildew growing.

The breakfast of hardworking champions, LOL!

  3. Nothing better than farm fresh eggs. Like the saying goes; cheap is good but Free is better especially like you mentioned; without the extra work even tho it's the chickens that lay the eyes :}
For nice fluffy pancakes; forget about using buttermilk or water in your batter; use Club Soda instead.
My late aunt had told me to use Club Soda in my pancake / waffle batter some 30 years ago and I have been making my batter that way ever since.
Enjoy your day and don't work too hard in planting them trees.
Have a great weekend as well.
To all the mother's out there; wishing you all a Happy Mother's Day tomorrow.

    1. Amen to that! Free is always good.

Great idea about the club soda, never heard of that, I will let 2nd Man know. Is it just a one to one substitute from buttermilk/water to club soda? Will try that next time.

    2. Yes on equal amount. If it calls for 1 cup buttermilk/water you would use 1 cup club soda instead and mix well. ( I use a whisk to mix ingredients)

  4. @colleen - never heard about club soda; but a friend told me to add pure vanilla extract to pancake/waffle batter. OMB, SO GOOD! add as much vanilla as you like.

  5. When you have hens, you will be able to trade eggs for other things that people produce. Even with four hens, I had enough to share or give to friends who did me a favor, or trade. The friends who did me a favor had to be forced to take the eggs. If you work it right, you can feed hens with absolutely no cost for food.

    1. That's a good point. Heck, we sort of trade food (2nd Man will make something for 2nd Family) and then they always keep us in eggs. Good idea!!!

  6. LOVE those farm fresh eggs! And your breakfast of champions looks so yummy! A breakfast like that is not only delicious, but has staying power when there's work to be done.

    1. Amen to that!!! Honestly that did keep me going all day long. It's a nice way to start the day for sure (and the best way I think for our health!). The eggs are SO good.
