HANGING FLOWERS, INSPIRATION THURSDAY

Every Thursday we like to post a picture of something we've found online that inspires us to do something similar at the farm. Sort of our own blog bulletin board so that we can eventually look back and someday, hopefully anyway, recreate it...enjoy!

We were looking at porch ideas recently as we prepare (if it EVER cools down) to clean up the porch (yet again, why is it always cluttered? sigh). Anyway, we ran across these two pictures.  Similar ideas, different flowers/colors, but still incredible.

We know that this is most likely not something we can do when we aren't there full time. We're pretty sure hanging baskets full of beautiful flowers like these would not do as well part time of course.  Still, someday we'd love to recreate something like these. Of course, when they could be watered on a daily basis.  How beautiful must this be in person!

Be inspired...

  1. Beautiful but like you mentioned, they must be cared for on a daily basis. To have beautiful hanging basket like this, not only do you plant from the top but you also put and plant plants all around the outside of the wire basket as shown in the 2nd link.

    2. Thanks for the links. Yep I figured it's a daily thing but it might be fun to try (someday). And Parsimony, Colleen does have great info doesn't she?

  2. Hanging baskets need loads of water, adding moss or water retention gel to the soil is a must. I found out the hard way

    1. Yep, I figured it's an almost two times a day watering in really hot summers. Sorry you found out the hard way, I think we all have, ha.

  3. My neighbor had hanging flowers. She had an old bucket sitting in the flowers below where the roof water dripped. In the bucket she had a hundred year old water dipper. Everyday, she came out and dipped water into her hanging baskets. She was loathe to run a faucet to water anything. I love baskets of hanging flowers.

  4. They are beautiful things. And a LOT of work. Worth it when you are there full time though.

  5. Those are really beautiful! They do need to be watered daily but the results are gorgeous.
