RANDOM PICTURE SUNDAY AND OUR HARVEST

My coworker, who makes awesome wreaths made this for us.  She tried to find green flowers but the aqua was the closest she could get.  We love it and it's hanging on our door right now.

We used some of our garden fresh and ripe tomatoes to top some hamburgers.  Off the chart flavor!

Hobart loves when we have packages delivered from Amazon.  He has slept on this box on and off for three days now.

Nadeau yellow kitchen hutch
A few weeks back (maybe a couple months actually) someone asked in the comments about this hutch in the kitchen.  They wished they could see more of it.  Well here it is.  The kitchen does not have a lot of cabinet space and so we found this at Nadeau furniture store a few years ago.  It's got great open storage, a big spot at the top where we put our plates and bowls.  There are two open shelves where we put some glasses and pitchers, and two drawers that are currently empty.  On each side are glass front cabinets which currently have mostly mixing bowls and serving dishes/platters.  We use the top for our baskets, a fan for the kitchen, and a few decorative items.  So far it has worked out great!

Garden harvest
Here is the weekend harvest. Lots of banana peppers, some cukes and one lone tomato, ha.  There are a few more green tomatoes that were a bit too green to pull so we'll get them next weekend.  The squash has rebounded and we might get several next weekend.

We think the garden is starting to fade because of the heat. This year we reached 90 degrees earlier in the season than the last few years. It will soon be time to decide when to pull the veggies.

Hope you are having a great weekend!

  1. Those tomatoes! My mouth is watering. I will take your produce but not your heat. And that wreath is beautiful. Love is all.

  2. I, too, love the wreath. I would love a slice of tomato on a cheeseburger with meat, Miracle Whip, lettuce, and tomato! What variety tomato is that? Have you considered getting a tomato that is advertised as tolerant to heat? Maybe there is no such thing. Will you plant a second garden right now and one later toward fall? I imagine the box is cooler than a cushion. Does he still miss his companion?

    1. Go to WM and find greenery that will look flowerish and replace the green.

    2. Thank you. That's the Headmaster and it's supposed to be tolerant of heat, ha. We will plant some heat loving plants and then of course a Fall garden for sure. Fall tomatoes will be on the list for sure.

Great idea about the greenery, I'll check that out. . Thanks!!

  3. Love the pretty wreath! “All you need is love!”
Mmm, that hamburger with your gorgeous homegrown tomatoes.
Hobart sure knows all the “cool” places to hang out!
Your hutch has so many neat nooks and crannies that make everything easily accessible while being beautiful and organized.
Your garden is still producing a good amount of goodies but you’re right, the heat is getting to be just too much for it now. I’m making some Bread & Butter pickles today with the last of my cucumbers.

    1. That's all we need in the end isn't it? Oh the burger was so good. I'm not sure why we had so many cukes last year and not many this year. Seems like even in the heat they were going crazy but maybe that was after they got established. Oh well, we have fun doing it, small as it may be.

  4. Good to see you have some harvest still coming along, in the heat of Summer here we mulch with straw or sugar cane mulch about 5 inches deep, it really helps with keeping the soil cool and water retention.
If you put stakes in each corner of the garden bed you can then tie on some shade cloth to make a roof and 1 wall on the hot side half way down to allow airflow and help with heat stress.
    Happy gardening.

    1. You know, I've heard about shade cloth but have never really researched it. Thank you for this. I will look into that. Even if we miss out this year, we'll be prepared for next year. Thanks for the info, it's much appreciated!!! :-)

  6. A rainbow wreath for PRIDE week! Nice! It seems strange to think your growing season is coming to a close. Don't some of those veggies like the heat? or is it a water problem?

    1. Aww, thanks for that. Yeah, down here it's just so hot and humid, the plants really struggle There are some that love the heat, okra, peppers, melons, but the others are a bit temperamental, ha. It's ok, we'll adapt. This is all about learning and knowing what works when. We'll see!!

  9. If the plants look like they are failing, pull them and replant. You still have time for a later summer harvest.
