NEW YEARS EVE 2020

It has rained all night and all day.

We're on the Nextdoor group for the area around the farm and people are reporting their rainfall totals and it's anywhere from 4" to 6".  It's supposed to end this evening and then turn cold.

We don't go out for New Year's Eve in a good year.  Just seems nothing good ever happens on the road after midnight.  Plus the older we get the less we like crowds.

Then yesterday afternoon, everyone in Houston got this push alert on their cell phones.  In our office all our phones went off at once (kind of freaky).  So things are getting worse here as we start 2021.

We have some homemade pizza dough on a slow rise in the fridge for the last couple of days so 2nd Man can try out his new cast iron Lodge pizza pan...

...and we also have a bottle of champagne chilling in the fridge.

So we're going to stay home, eat well, have some champagne and stay up until midnight to make damn sure 2020 goes away.

  2. I just looked at the Covid numbers for Texas. Very alarming. You are doing the smart thing. Enjoy your meal and continue the self nurturing into 2021.

    1. Texas is doing very badly. Houston is alarming but we're still better off than West Texas so bad there. A friend of mind from work has lost 4 extended family members this last month. They don't believe in masks and had big Thanksgiving get togethers. Sigh. You stay safe too!!

  3. Wishing y’all a very happy, healthy, and successful New Year! I will be happy to see 2020 in my rear view mirror!! Looking forward to better things in 2021.
We got a lot of rain here. My 6 inch rain gauge was overflowing early this morning but it was pouring rain so I didn’t go out to empty it. It continued to rain all morning and into the afternoon - so I probably got another couple of inches from that.

    1. Thank you so much! I think the rain was pretty good everywhere in this part of Texas. That's nice, we did need it. And we didn't have flooding problems so that's ok. Here's to a much better 2021!

Hubby was scheduled to work today but stores closed at 6 so was able to come home earlier than usual. Nothing really special here at this household.

    1. We are cold today though probably not as cold as you further up North in Texas, but yeah it was cold and rainy yesterday and just cold today. Stay warm and dry!

  5. The rain pushed north and we've starting the day with freezing rain that's supposed to turn to snow. Hopefully it means "in like a lion, out like a lamb"! Happy New Year!

  6. Happy New Year! We must have the same rain gauge as Texas Rose as ours overflowed at 6” too. Nice to fill up the pond. We got our first vaccine dose Tuesday so starting off 2021 on the right path! Hope you take a pic of the pizza.

  9. Ok, I cotta know; how was your pizza. I know it must had been good but how was it prepared on the cast iron pizza pan.
Me, I prefer preparing pizza in my cast iron skillets or on my pizza stones.
Seems like pizza taste much better than baking in / on a baking sheet
Neighbors around still shooting off fireworks here last night and into the early morning hours. Allowed to shoot fireworks off in Johnson County
Have yourselves a wonderful weekend and stay warm and stay safe.

    1. It was really good. I will have a post coming up about it. We had been using a baking sheet and the difference was night and day. Baking sheet was good but the cast iron just gave it a crust that was as close to wood oven fired pizza like at a pizza place. It was smart of Lodge to come up with a pizza pan. Thanks, hope you are guys are warm and safe too!

  10. I haven't used a baking sheet since I started using my cast iron skillets or my pizza stones a few years ago. Pizza around here is normally a weekend thing.
I made a very simple BLT pizza just the other night. (by simple, I mean taking a lot of short cuts :} )
