WATER IS BACK

We woke up Saturday morning to the water back on and it was at full pressure for most everyone...

After almost four days of little to no water, I think that was the best shower I have ever taken.  I could have stayed in there for an hour...

And the toilet flushes again without buckets of pool water needed to make that happen...

They are still having to give water to those who need it as the entire city of Houston/Harris County (millions of people) are on a boil water notice so we're not out of the woods yet.  The lines were over a mile long again and we just heard tonight that it might be Tuesday before the boil water notice is lifted...

  1. Great! Once again, why is your blog "not secure?" Look at the address.

  2. Hopefully our water will be turned on soon, but in the meantime we're making do, as I know there are others who are in worse conditions than we are. We have been delivering cases of bottled water in our neighborhood who are in need of fresh drinking water. It may seem like a small thing to do, but those in need really Do appreciate the help.

Make Severe and Inconvenient Weather into an Adventure

Alan Epstein writes about the spiritual practice of being grateful for all kinds of weather — even the kind of winter weather that inconveniences us:

"Look forward to the approach of strong or unusual weather. Instead of griping when the days turn foul — snow, sleet, freezing rain, or rain with cold temperatures — see them as an exciting adventure, as a time when nature reminds you that she exists, that when it comes to the earth, it is her domain.

"Even a severe cold spell can be the source of pleasure if you are prepared for it, if you act accordingly and bundle up against the cold and wind. Can you recognize that we all live on a small, spinning orb held on course by the force of gravity among the nearby heavenly bodies, and that its position in the universe is very powerful, but ultimately also very fragile?

"See the changing weather as representative of all change. As the earth moves around the sun through the course of the year, the earth is tilted at an angle of twenty-three and a half degrees — which creates the seasons. Consider also that at one time the bulk of the planet was covered with ice, and that erupting volcanoes are manifestations of the active core of the earth. We, living our lives day to day, are as much a part of this universal system as the moon, a grain of sand, or the sweet smile on your child's face when he or she wakes up from a two-hour nap in the middle of the afternoon.

"All phenomena — including bad weather — contribute to our experience of life. Don't discriminate. Enjoy the adventure."

The next time you hear a report forecasting strong and unusual weather make it your spiritual practice of the day to see it as an adventure rather than as a possible nightmare. See what a difference this reframing makes in our experience.
Yes, some may have it worse than others, but no matter the conditions; it brings people together; helping one another so maybe that is the purpose of what Mother Nature brings us; bringing us together and helping those in time of need.
So be a good neighbor and help anyway that you can.
No matter what, I still feel blessed knowing that we will all make it through these hardships; one way or another.
Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is the time for home.
    (sorry for the long comment)

  5. Nice to be back in the 21st century - right? I was so glad to have running water again! And, it looks like spring might actually be on the "coming soon to a place near you" placard.

  6. Happy for you to have your water returned to almost normal. I had rather have to boil water than to haul it for flushing!

  7. I am very glad to hear it. How quickly we forget just how amazing it is to be able to simply turn on a tap and have water gush out. Luxury.

  8. I'm so happy to hear you have water again...I know that feeling...when we moved here last May and realized the well was dry, we were out of running water for nearly two weeks. I remember that first shower, definitely the best I've ever had! :)

  9. So glad that you now have water. I have seen on TV that there are places that still do not have water, so hoping that is remedied for all soon. We don’t realize how much we take for granted having power, heat, water, fuel, and well-stocked grocery stores – until they are not available. I know when my heat finally came on, I got tears of relief and gratefulness. I felt the same way when the water returned to normal.
