THE GOAL FOR TODAY

Well it's off to the farm...typical Summer "Dog Days of August" forecast for us:

High upper 90's, low upper 70's, 20% chance of rain.

My goal for today is to mow, though we had a few of those pop up 20% rains yesterday so I will have to see how wet it is.

The other goal is another raised bed cleaned out in the garden.  I'm bringing cardboard to cover it up.  I might shoot for two of them but we'll see how it goes.

I'd like to borrow 2nd Fam's lawnmower to use around the fruit trees but I think I'll do that on an "off weekend" when I don't have to mow or work the garden beds.  I mean, who's gonna see it other than us?

On the pantry replenishing, since our city/county is back to "SEVERE THREAT LEVEL" for covid, I picked a few things I know we need and added them to the list and I'll stop at a rural grocery out there that doesn't have a lot of people.  I will do a deeper dive into the fridge, freezer and pantry tomorrow and then pick one day next week to head to the store on my lunch break to stock up.  Seems like we're back to that now.

Hope you are off to a good weekend start!

  1. Enjoy your day.
Have a nice breeze blowing & a bit cloudy this morning but I'm sure it will warm up this afternoon.
We done what needed to be done early this morning so later on I will be making deliveries of towels and blankets that have been donated to some of the animal shelters/ hospitals in the area.
Owner of our favorite restaurant had agreed to put up a couple of fliers for me for people to donate their unwanted towels & blankets. We (me & hubby) pick them up and then we go around and deliver them all. I will be doing this for the whole month of August.

If Anyone has any old towels and / or blankets you want to get rid of; Please donate them to your local animal shelters / hospitals, or even to veterinarians as they are all in need of them items and they do appreciate what is given.
    Thank You

Have a wonderful evening and a great weekend.

    1. What a great thing to do and remind people of. We do have a few old towels and at least one blanket we don't use, I will put those aside and get them to an animal shelter.

It was hot yesterday, though the day had a thunderstorm and today it's hotter and some more pop up storms. Story of August, ha.

  3. Do you leave your provisions bought at lunch in the car? If it is edible, don't. Even liquid detergent deteriorates, I have read.

    1. Oh no, definitely bring them in. I have a cart that I use for bringing groceries up to the apartment after I park and I use it if I know I have a lot to bring into the office. We have a full size fridge in the break room so I bring in most everything that I don't want in the heat of the car, including things like detergent and deodorant, etc.

  4. I am with you on fearing for another round of staying totally at home. I have been trying to stock our pantry with a few extra purchases each week, in addition to freezing some of the veggies (mainly green beans) we have been growing this summer.
We do not drink milk, but we do use almond milk in cereal occasionally. I was at Costco one day recently when they had samples, and tasted the shelf stable vanilla almond milk. It is not quite as good as the stuff we get in the dairy section but it will be perfectly fine for cereal. I went ahead and bought 2 2-packs of it. I am not hoarding food, but I am preparing for the worst while hoping for the best.

    1. Yep, better safe than sorry. Same with you, not hoarding just making sure we're good for a few weeks if necessary. We always have a good supply of canned goods on hand, we'll just make sure we have some meats in the freezer, love bags of frozen veggies, and making sure we have stuff like butter, rice, dried pasta, and the things like flour, sugar, etc. Last time we were caught off guard by not anticipating a shortage of toilet paper, paper towels, etc. This time I'm making sure we have plenty of that, ha. Like you said, it's sort of like storm season, prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

  5. Hope you had a good day at the Farm and accomplished what you wanted to. And hoping the weather cooperated.
Glad you were able to pick up some needed items at your rural grocery store. I’m going to go early Monday morning for some shopping.
We got rain this morning and this afternoon, totaling over an inch. At least it cooled off for a bit.
    Enjoy your Sunday tomorrow!

    1. I got some accomplished, what I could with the weather, update tomorrow. Yep, got a few things at the grocery out there and one day this week I will go to the HEB I go to on my lunch break and pick up some things. We should be good, as Anne said above, preparing for the worst, hoping for the best.
