ANOTHER BIRD FEEDING STATION IDEA INSPIRATION THURSDAY

A few weeks back, we posted about cardinals in the yard and wanting to eventually create a wild bird feeding area there.  We posted a couple of pictures of some we saw online and the other night we saw this...

Another one that is sort of a hybrid planter and bird feeding station.  We like the variety of  bird feeders they used, of course we know that's for all sorts of bird varieties since everyone like something different, ha.

It would certainly be easy to recreate something like this out there.  We bet the birds would be very happy.

Be inspired!

  1. I like the bird feeding station part but not the part that they mounted it in a flower bed. Weeds will come up very quickly from any seed that the birds drop on the ground. That is where a person could put some ground feeding bird feeders or small decorative yard art of sorts but not plants and flowers. Hanging baskets with flowers would add color and hanging them using shepherds hooks or like in the photo, mounting them to the top cross section.

    1. Hmm, things to consider. Love the ideas, thank you for that.

  2. If that is food planted, the food will become bird food or be covered in poop. Tommy said there were two trees at the gas station where he worked at his retirement job. A coworker threw his lunch scraps under one of the trees, resulting in many birds every day. In the course of several years, the tree with all the birds grew much faster and taller than the other tree. When birdseed falls from the feeders, rats are drawn from the fields and take up residence closer to the feeder, maybe even in the house or barn. This idea looks so nice. Just be aware of the consequences.

    1. Hmm, good thoughts. Now we do have rats and such out in the brush. We don't want to draw them closer for sure. It is something to think about when we plan ahead. Thank you!

  3. Bird feeding and bird watching is a lot of fun. It’s really exciting when unusual birds visit, such as Painted Buntings or Rose-breasted Grosbeaks.

    1. I used to think birdwatching was silly (when young and dumb, ha) and now I LOVE watching to see what comes and goes in the yard. Seeing something unusual is so exciting. Can't wait.

  4. Putting a bird feeder in a flower bed or garden spot makes a lot of work. The seeds fall and start to grow and than you need to weed thd spot often.

    1. Hmm, another vote for watching the seeds. We'll have to take this into account. Thank you for the tip! Something to consider.

  5. Here is one more cautionary note. The freeze this year changed my pattern of feeding birds. I have always had many feeders up and when the finches come in the fall, my yard is alive with their activity, that is until the BIG freeze. That is when I started seeing dead birds in my yard and on my walks. Broke my heart. One was my bluebird. Then I read an article in the paper that our birds were being killed by salmonella (I think that was it). I immediately went out took down all my feeders, bleached them and put them away. I have not put up feeders this year, but will only put up a couple. I have many shrubs with seeds so I am providing some food. I will put up one or two later because I do love my cardinals, but hopefully the large flocks of finches will scatter and none will get sick. So my caution is, fewer feeders for safety, unless you have lots of squirrels. They will keep you from over feeding your birds. They get to the feeder first and maybe some will be left for the birds, BUT they are so much fun to watch. Love your blog.

    1. Wow, never thought about that. I'll have to read up on that. That's scary. We certainly have enough problems in the world with bees and most recently read about bats having problems, and now bird issues. Will keep this in mind.

Thank you for stopping by and thanks for the info of course and the kind words. Don't be a stranger!!
