The garlic has ALL come up. 36 planted and 36 sprouts. That's pretty awesome. At this point they are pretty much self sufficient and they don't require much water as long as there is some rain. If it rains a lot during the week, I'll lightly water them on the weekend or if no rain, I'll give them a good soaking. They are freeze safe so no worries there. They'll just keep doing their thing until Spring and then it'll be getting close to harvest time.

Check out the collard greens!
2nd Man looked at them and said "I think we'll be eating collard greens in a week or two!" Watch for some collard green recipes coming soon. Now, we kind of wished we had planted the Napa cabbage, ha.
Fall gardening is much easier than "late Spring/early Summer" gardening that's for sure. We might need to look at more "cold weather friendly" things to grow.
I've been enjoying Swiss chard from our local CSA. Even Dan likes it. There's also spinach which is easy too.
ReplyDeleteoooh, we LOVE spinach. Didn't think about that. Will have to research that for next Fall. And Swiss chard sounds good too. We haven't ever had much of that but will give it a shot.

DeleteI need to learn how, when, where, and what garlic to plant. I love all cooked fresh greens except spinach. Well, I love it, but it comes right back up. I can eat it fresh, though. Have you ever eaten mixed greens? That has several greens, including mustard greens. Have you ever eaten mustard greens?
ReplyDeleteNo spinach? We love it, fresh, sautéed, in something. Yum. The only think I don't like is canned (like store bought cans) of spinach, yuck. Yes we have had mustard greens, enjoy those. We tried growing them along with kale and the collards and the collards did the best.

ReplyDeleteI love Fall gardening too. I planted just about everything that grows in the fall. I can just walk out and pick my own homegrown, organic lettuce and other produce without going to the grocery store. And it tastes so much better.
We have some links for some good ideas, we'll just have to see what we do and what we modify into our own kind of thing ha. I'll have to get with you for a list of what grows well here in the Fall since you aren't too far from us.
