GOOD FOOD AND HOBART SUNDAY

It's been a roller coaster week with weather.  We started with 50's and then made it to the 70's and then the bottom fell out into the mid-20's!

Yesterday, it was finally above freezing for the first time in a couple of days...

Chicken soup and dumplings

...so 2nd Man decided to make a pot of chicken soup with dumplings.  Chicken, carrots, onions, peas, seasonings, broth, cream and of course, homemade "slick" dumplings.  The recipe he uses is adapted from the great chef Emeril Lagasse.

It was another great "cold weather" meal.  Now we have enough to eat on for a few days.

Curled up Hobart

Speaking of keeping warm, here is Hobart all snug and happy, though we're not sure which end is up in this picture, ha!  He's in the classic cat position, all curled up and warm.  He slept here for a good three hours.

We always make sure he is warm and comfortable, whenever and wherever he wants to be.

  1. It sure has been the weather for a nice hot bowl of soup.
We just finished off our homemade hamburger veggie soup yesterday
Hobart sure does have a right idea on taking a nice long nap

    1. The only good thing about the cold weather, nice time for a change in menu ha. That hamburger veggie soup looks wonderful. And yep, Hobart gets all the good naps, ha. I totally forgot about mine today.

  2. Your soup looks amazing. And Hobart is just adorable. We lost our cat this week and have been missing him terribly.

    1. Oh no!!! We are so sorry for you and feel your pain. We've lost two others over the last few years. You know, we all know how this will end when we bring our furry babies into our lives but I don't think any of us would change a thing knowing that. Unconditional love is wonderful. Sending warm hugs your direction.

    1. Hobart will get into one of our laps and sleep and we just won't move or anything because we don't want to disturb him, ha. Sydney was a drooler and yeah, ew, ha. Hobart thankfully isn't.

  4. I made chicken and dumplings a couple of nights ago. Last night it was butternut squash parsnip soup. That's all gone now too after lunch today. I'm in Buffalo cooking for 5 instead of 2. Awaiting the birth of a new granddaughter any day now.

    1. Sounds yummy! Funny how the cold weather brings out these types of dishes everywhere, ha, but you are right, we do have this even in Summer, soup is always good.

  6. A three-hour nap all curled up sounds so good to me. Lucky Hobart.

    1. LOL wouldn't that be nice? When I take a nap I can never seem to make it a 30 minute "nap". I just go to sleep and it could be hours. So I refrain from them, ha. 2nd Man can sleep for 30 minutes and be up and ready to go.

  7. I meant to ask--what are "slick noodles?"

    1. We've always been used to puffy dumplings, but on this recipe (which we've used for a few years now) they call them "slicks". They are a flat type of dumpling, squares that are slightly thicker than a noodle. It might be a Southern thing, not sure. Just think of it as a flat dumpling or a thick noodle, ha..

    1. Wasn't it perfect weather for that? Thankfully the freezing is gone and I saw the ten day forecast and so far so good. Let that be in for Winter, knock on wood!

  9. Good Day, 2nd man makes those flat dumplings my mom made for her soup also. My hubby just cannot get his mind wrapped on FLAT dumplings. I would stand and watch mom glide them from her hand to the pot. Nothing like home cooking. YUM... stay warm and safe.
