WINE CRATES TRASH TO TREASURE

Regular readers know that I have a favorite place to look for bargains...our downstairs trash area!  Our building has trash chutes on every floor and they feed into a separate room, but for boxes and other things that people can't put in the chute, there is an area (indoor) near the loading dock where people can put the things they don't want.  I've found quite a few cool items over the last few years.

Here are a couple of the latest!

Wine crates
A couple of years back, we found another wine box/crate like these.  It's currently at the farm holding bulk items on the utility room shelves.  Recently, I found one downstairs and then a few days later, another.  The one we found a couple of years ago was tall and deep but these are longer and a bit shallower.  There are no lids on them but we can use them for some kind of storage.

They should be fun to use in a pantry for storage of food and/or kitchen items or maybe even wine glasses. They just look cool for storage and they are definitely sturdy and will hold up.

  1. A good, sturdy container is always welcome and so much more attractive than plastic.

    1. Yes, great way of putting it. Much more welcome and nice looking that plastic. I mean we do have plastic storage but when we can, this will work.

  3. You could always add some shelves in them and they would work in your pantry for storage of whatever! A good wooden box is worth utilizing!!

  4. Turned on their side on a nice wide shelf they will give you an extra shelf. Or even stack them for a shelf.

  7. If I need a heavy cardboard box I stop at our wine store. They are great for moving or packing things for storage. Sometimes they have a few wood wine crates that are free for the asking.

    1. Oh yes, those are always great, very sturdy and easy to get. Funny story about that...my Mom used to use those when she would ship Christmas or bday presents to her family. One day Grandma (her mom) asked her very seriously, if she had a drinking problem, LOL! I never thought about it but to them, they were just seeing boxes over and over with "vodka" or "whiskey" or whatever all over the boxes, and in bulk amounts by the case, ha. We explained and everyone got a good laugh about it.
