Regular readers know that I have a favorite place to look for bargains...our downstairs trash area! Our building has trash chutes on every floor and they feed into a separate room, but for boxes and other things that people can't put in the chute, there is an area (indoor) near the loading dock where people can put the things they don't want. I've found quite a few cool items over the last few years.
Over the last couple of months, I've found four more baskets/milk crates and one in a different shape...
And then a few weeks later, two more crates and another of those longer baskets. The six additional milk crates gives us ten total plus two of the longer ones.
Already putting some of them to use in the workshop, two of them fit perfectly side by side on the shelves in there. They'll be great for putting supplies and things in and keeping things all together in a certain spot.
Was thinking of cans of spray paint in one, chemicals in another, even scraps of wood. They are sturdy and hold a lot of weight and with the handles, they are easy to move around as needed. It's also a plus that they fit so well on the shelves, that makes life easier.
4 gallons of milk would be 32 lbs. They are very sturdy and handy.

ReplyDeleteThey make for very good storage containers, planter boxes (line with landscape fabric, fill with good potting mix and plant away. Make into a footstool for outside porch area. List could go on and on. Nice thing about it; nothing but a can of spray paint to change the color if you want.

ReplyDeleteMilk crates are so useful, especially in a garden setting. I still want one like your rectangular one for a compost sifter.
ReplyDeleteI have gardening tools in two out in the car port and another in the basement with homegrown butternut squash. Save a few for fruit harvests from your trees!
