BARE MINIMUM

Was at the farm Saturday.

To do the bare minimum. No mowing, just watering the orchard and porch plants, taking some stuff to put in the barn/shed and that was it.

This is when I left at about 2:00pm.  I checked the app and it said 100 degrees and 111 feels like and I said "yep, that feels like a good time to call it a day".

The grass has not grown much, if at all, since I did the quick mow last weekend and the ground is starting to crack open (as it does in a drought).

I always take the truck for a spin (if I'm not using it for something else) and when I came back, I figured it was better to park it in the shade.  Better on the tires, belts, hoses and of course, battery. It's a little late now, ha, but at least for all of August and into September, it will be in the shade and hopefully, safer.  If we get into a time with chance of thunderstorms/high winds, we'll move it back out into the open.

Look at this forecast for the next TEN DAYS.

Over 100 degrees every day and ZERO chance of rain.  I don't see any mowing in the near future at this point.

  1. We have some serious cracks as well; some at least 3 feet deep and some good size holes as well; some small holes for now but some of the larger ones are anywhere from 6-8 inches across and deep.
Our 3-100 gal. water tanks are now empty. We used the tank water for watering container plants as well as the newly planted trees that we planted in the spring. Using soaker hoses now. Have garden hose hooked up to outside faucet of which we connect to the soaker hoses.
I guess all in due time we will be blessed with some rain.(my rain dance hasn't done any good)
Enjoy your day and have a great evening.
    Stay cool and be safe

  2. I hope you see relief from the heat soon and some much needed rain. That crack is a bit scary. Stay cool.

  3. Hot and Dry, Hot and Dry – it’s like a broken record! I have cracks in my ground also. And no rain in sight. With this heat dome parked on us, it’s just heat misery every day.
I’m glad you moved Bill to some shade – I imagine he appreciated it. Could you perhaps string a tarp between your 2 sheds to create a temporary carport for him?
