GUEST ROOM HAS MORE FURNITURE, PART 1

This past weekend, we were able to get a couple pieces of furniture out of storage and moved to the farmhouse.  They were my Mom's and have been in storage since her passing.  I was glad to get them out of there and into their new home in the guest room.

Vintage Yellow Hoosier Style Cabinet

This one is a Hoosier style cabinet, at least I think that's what it's called.  It's a pale butter yellow (as is the other piece I'll show tomorrow) and as you can see above, it fits in this spot perfectly, not too wide, and the perfect height.

Best of all, this gives us much needed storage in our under 1000 square foot little farmhouse.  Shelves behind the glass doors, a drop down lid with open storage and even a drawer (not sure how we'll utilize that but we'll find a use), and then the bottom doors open and there are three more shelves.  Nothing wrong with that at all.  We're finding that we're all about storage potential now.

To be continued tomorrow...

  1. That looks like a kitchen cabinet my friend has that was used for sandwich making ... but in a bedroom you could use it as a writing desk, pencils, paper, etc in the drawer. Congratulations on your progress of getting furniture moved in.

    1. I never thought about a writing desk. Great idea! Storing papers, pens and such in the drawer is smart! Reminds me though of something I forgot about, we need a chair in there. Thanks!!

    1. It's kind cool huh? Not sure of its origins. It does look like a kitchen cabinet of some sort, but my Mom thought it was pretty cool and we think it's pretty neat as well. I ALMOST sold it a few years ago (before a farmhouse was in our future) and I'm glad I didn't. It just really seems to fit in that spot perfectly.

  3. Looks great! It's going to contribute to that light, airy look I see in the photo. Too much of the furniture I see is dark, heavy, and way too large. My own little "farmhouse" (village house, really) is 720 square feet, and it seems an ideal size.

    1. Aww, thanks!! This is another reason we chose white walls throughout. Not only to make the rooms look bigger and brighter, but to let the pieces of furniture and the decor be the star of each room. 720 sq feet? Ours is a little more than 900 and I thought that was small! I love though how small houses create unique storage solutions.

    1. Thanks! We love the old floors. They are refinished but weren't sanding smooth and repaired, we didn't want them to be "too" new looking. ;-)

  7. My parents and grandmother had those cabinets. My parents' was a pale green and grannie's was the same pale yellow as your picture. Good re-purposing!

    1. Wow! Too cool!!! Pale green would be nice...do you know how they were used? Were they kitchen cabinets? Baking cabinets? We're thinking they'll be holding linens this time around, ha.

    1. You know, it amazes me that furniture designers today don't build things with an eye on 'yesterday'. They'd probably make a fortune from people like us, ha. Thanks for stopping by!!
