Can someone tell me what this is called? Not the clock or vase, LOL.
It's a piece of crochet (I think?) that my Grandmother made. My Mom had it in storage for a long time and we pulled it out recently when we were looking for something to put under the glass on this end table in the guest room. I'd like to buy/find some more or at least something similar, assuming they aren't outrageously priced of course, to put elsewhere in the room.
I just don't know what to call it when I'm looking for it online or even at a thrift store/tag sale. I'm assuming it has a name of some sort, or a style or description, just don't know what that would be.

This is coffee table doilies or crocheted lace :) my mom used to make them all the time.

But then you can't see it! Amazing to think they did all that work, only to have it covered up by bowls and plates and such.
DeleteDefinitely a crocheted doily with pansies around the edge. I have two smaller ones like it and have crocheted many doilies myself.

DeleteYep, it's a doily. Crocheted, I think. As someone else said, tatting usually is produced with finer thread, and the end product would be essentially covered by the vase. I usually see tatting only in lace edgings, or perhaps in a bookmark. Also, I have to comment on the clock: I have one just like it.

I noticed when I was out there yesterday that it's running about an hour fast, it worked just fine before i moved it, not sure what causes that, ha. Yeah, maybe this was so the vase only covered the middle and then the outside edge with the flowers was exposed?
DeleteAnd the colored flowers on the edge make it even more special. Most doilies are monochromatic, at least the ones I've seen in the past have been. You should be able to find these in thrift shops or antique stores in the area. I wonder if my Mom has any stashed away....I'll ask.
