| Vintage Ball Mason Jar |
Picked this up at a thrift store about a week ago. It's a vintage "Ball" canning jar, the bigger, large sized one. It has the old type metal lid that has discolored with age and has that bluish green tint to the glass. I put it on the NEW DESK but I'm not sure what to put in it? It's too big for paperclips or something like that. I like it on the desk though, it's something people see when they first walk in. Is there something I could collect on the property that I could keep in there? Any ideas?

ReplyDeleteWow, irony of ironies, SOMEWHERE in storage, I have a bunch of old marbles that my Grandparents used to keep in jars on their windowsill. I NEVER even thought about that. Very tempting!!! Thanks!!!

DeleteI keep a jar of candies on my desk. They change with the seasons, but I try to basically stick with hard candies as they take longer to eat!

You could DIY some twine spheres.
However it doesn't have to be just small items. Maybe you showcase 1 spectacular item?

DeleteVintage marbles or buttons is good. Or how about you put something in there that you could change with the seasons? Pine cones in winter, conquers or acorns in autumn, different stones in spring - (I get a bit stuck after this), but maybe something you find around the property in each season.

DeleteI have loads of antique jars...some filled with marbles, buttons, jawbreaker candy, rock candy, small bars of soap, bubble bath, bath salts...and the jar on my desk holds scented votive candles...I take the lid off and the lovely smells fill the room...yummy!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to put them all over the house now, thanks a lot, lol. And I mean that in a good way. Love it. And scented votives are awesome. I like the idea of having something that has a scent when you want it. Hmm, maybe potpourri is an option too?? Thank again.

DeleteI have several around my house, some empty, some full. I love Mason jars. I have shells, leaves, buttons, spools, marbles, a memorable single dried flower, tiny quilted pillow pincusions, sewing notions, cotton balls, etc...They are spread out and part of many vignettes, so not as compulsive as it sounds. But I think with your wildflowers, some dried colorful sprigs would be sweet.

DeleteI Love all the ideas above and have mason jars of my own that I have been trying to fill.....Some I put different colors of sand in...Layer them...It is really beautiful not only for visitors but also for yourself. I Live in S.C. and alot of people use shells. I know this is a bit strange but children like to see those little grow spongey things in jars. There are alot of different things...Open your mind and think really hard....Different is better. Something really strange...but I have seen done...is put holes in the lid and add a couple of small fish.
