CAST IRON MATCH HOLDER

Red cast iron match holder

I found this while going through a box of stuff I brought home from storage over the weekend. It originally belonged to my Grandmother, a vintage cast iron match holder.  I put it on the wall in the mudroom next to the light switch and now I just need some more matches
(for all those sconces, LOL)

    1. LOL! You made me almost spit my water out on my screen. I used a nail first, but the thing would move when I tried to get out a match. So I grabbed a screw. The red is original to the holder so I'll have to find the right color. But i'll make sure to post an update when I do it, ha. It's ok, you can give me advice any time!

      Love it!

    1. Cool! My Grandparent's are from Oklahoma, that's pretty South, ha. Thanks about the color too, we're going to use red as an accent color in the kitchen.

  5. I love your match holder. We have a couple that belonged to my husband's grandmother. One is tin and one cast iron.

    1. Forgot to say--I think the unpainted screw looks fine. Rustic!

    2. Oh my gosh, I think there is another one in storage somewhere that is tin! And probably red. I seem to remember it more than this one (as I was growing up) but I'll have to keep sorting through stuff to find it.

And now a vote for the screw to stay as is....hmmm....decisions decisions, LOL!

      Thanks for stopping by!!

  7. I like, just curious is there flint on the side to light the matches? Is it big enough to hold big box of matches intact? er hemm, I'm with the paint the screw brigade - might be a girl thing:). Laura
