DEWBERRIES ARE COMING

New Dewberry plants coming up
While I was working on the raised beds this weekend, I noticed that dewberry bushes are starting to spring up all over the place.

HERE is last year's posting about them if you'd like more background about the plant.  Last year was a very prolific year for them, so I'm not sure how this year will be.  These look promising in that there are a lot of them coming up, but I'm not sure how much they will produce this season.  Sometimes it's every other year that's good.  We'll just have to wait about a month to find out!

Last year we were able to have a dewberry picking party.  Fingers crossed that we can do that again this year!

  1. I never had Dewberry in my life. My husband loves berries specially Blue Berries. The Good thing is that they are good for you. I love to pick Strawberries and love fresh ones and frozen ones. I am always trying to find new fresh things as fruit is always a good thing. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Hey hey! Welcome to the blog by the way! Dewberries are closely related to blackberries. They have more seeds, but they are very similar. Sweet, tart, big, small, and best of all, they grow wild everywhere out there.

Click on my link from last year and there is more info on them. Enjoy and come back soon!

  2. I am sooooo jealous. It is bad to being miserably cold and feels like gale force winds. Make sure you make some lovely dewberry jam...mmmmm

    1. I forget it's still cold and snowy in parts of the country (and world, ha). I will totally make some jam this year, if we have enough. I need to find a good recipe, or perhaps just wing it, ha.

  3. While walking my dog, Max, this morning, I noticed a ton of white blooms on the dewberries here in South Mississippi. Spring has sprung, although we're supposed to be down into the mid-30's again tonight, after several days of 80's high/50's low lol!

    1. We are having a brush with a freeze this weekend and it's cool today but definitely spring is springing, ha. I need to look for the white blooms, haven't seen alot on the property but haven't been all over yet either.

    1. They grow wild here in the South, pretty much everywhere, along railroad tracks, in the woods, in ditches, etc. You can find people (in about a month) picking them all over the place. I mow over some of them in the Spring and Summer after they've done their thing and they come back the next year in a nearby spot.
