BLACK FRIDAY

LOVE IT?  HATE IT?
DON'T EVEN PARTICIPATE IN IT?

Regardless of what you think about it, it's here.

We fall into the "don't participate" category.  I think going to the farm so often, where it's quiet and peaceful, coupled with getting older, has made us more and more "anti-crowd".  We like to keep it quiet and avoid the lines and teeming masses of shoppers looking for a bargain.  Not to mention we do so much of our shopping online, it's just so much easier.

We have two goals for what remains of the semi long weekend.  Going to the farm to get some things done and heading to one of our storage units full of stuff to pare it down and see what we have we can use.  For those new to the blog, my Father passed away unexpectedly and we had to move my Mom into an apartment from a house and put a lot of their stuff in storage.  The plan was to go through it with her and then she passed away and so we had to move her stuff into storage.  Her lease was up and we just didn't have time to sort through it.  We sold off the furniture so it's really just boxes of momentos, collectibles, vintage things, etc, so it's a project to consolidate down to one.

It'll be like Black Friday shopping, for free!

Whatever your plans today, we hope you get rest, get that great deal, or just have fun doing what makes you happy!

  1. When I was younger I would go Black Friday shopping. Now all I want to do is sleep in. Although I did order a few things online today.

  2. I think black Friday for you means something totally different for us. Here, black Friday is a Friday that falls on the 13th of the month and, if you're superstitious, is it considered unlucky. We also had a really bad bush fire in Victoria a few years ago where lots of lives and homes were destroyed and this was christened Black Friday. Hope going through the stuff in storage brings only happy memories back. Such things can be difficult.

    1. LOL, I didn't think about that but you're right. I guess "Black Friday" is a uniquely American (but spreading I"m sure) thing. It's the 'big' shopping day in stores, where people go crazy standing in long lines trying to get something for a discount.

Storage unit was nice (more on that in upcoming posts) and therapeutic.

  3. I’m with y’all - I don’t like the crowds and hullabaloo.
So I made turkey-rice soup with the leftover turkey bones - talk about good!
Then went out to the garden and fruit trees for some fresh produce.
Quite the opposite of the frenzy of hyper-shopping today!

    1. Hullabaloo is a great way to describe it.

Turkey rice soup? Yum! And pulling your own fresh produce, nothing like it huh?

  4. Don't participate. We're with you guys & prefer to be alone or just have a few friends stop by. The only thing(s) I bought today were some long term storage food from Thrive Life at their annual sale.

    1. I hear ya. A few friends or family, and we're happy. It can just be the two of us too and we're perfectly happy as well. Checking out Thrive Life. ;-)

  5. A sad thing to have to do but just think of all the niceities that you will find for the farm/ranch. I don't participate either. It was 87 yesterday here in Arizona so I was fortunate enough to be outside in the garden. Have a super great weekend.

  8. I hate shopping with a passion let alone dumb enough to go on Black Friday.....No Thank You. I would much rather stay home, bake or do whatever and not have to worry about the large crowds and of course all that traffic.......No Way.
Most of the time as it gets closer to Christmas a person still can get some pretty good deals; especially clothing. You wait about a week before Christmas and that is when it's a good time to buy that holiday dress or whatever.

    1. You are right, you can get great deals closer to Christmas too. We have done so much online and I like it like that too, ha.

A day of baking is always a good day. ;-)

  9. 1st Man,

In town was crazy, we had to go to Home Depot for plumbing supplies. We made sure to stay away from all the other stores and crowds.

    1. I drove passed the malls on the way out to the storage unit. OMG it was insane, the exits were backed up onto the freeway. Some people drove around for an HOUR looking for parking. No thank you!
